News and Notes from the Principal!
Wildcat Family,
Two solids months of instruction under our belts and it is more than obvious that children are embracing the learning at hand through the student growth exhibited! Hurricane Dorian attempted to knock us off course, but our teachers have battled through the adversity and amended plans to meet the needs of our students. Speaking of meeting the needs, we hope that you will take the upcoming Parent Conference opportunity to meet with the teacher while ensuring we are working together collectively to meet the needs of your child.
With the month of October before us and Fall in the air, you too should feel a sense of ease and understanding with daily happenings at McAllister. You should be receiving regular updates from your child's teacher regarding learning opportunities within the classroom, updates on progress via graded assignments, PowerSchool, as well as resources that are accessible both within and outside of school. Progress reports will be finalized and sent home in the coming weeks, be on the lookout!
Have your children come home eager to share more with you about "IF Time"? You may be thinking to yourself, What is "IF Time"? Instructional Focus Time is a 45 minute segment during the school day that is consistent within each grade level and allows teachers the opportunity to more specifically target the individualized needs of each of our students. Students who receive resource services are pulled during Instructional Focus to ensure they are not missing new material in their regular class. For students that are not pulled for resource, teachers work together as a grade level to help determine and meet the needs of each individual student. Some students may go to different teachers in their grade level during that time to work on those specific skills while other students may stay in their homeroom class. Groups during instructional focus are fluid and potentially change throughout the year based on teachers’ assessment of student learning.
One of the new specialized products that we purchased this year for each student is Study Island (2nd - 5th) & Exact Path (K-1st). Both online resources build individualized learning paths based on the MAP Assessment and are aligned to Georgia standards. Students can access these resources outside of the school day, your child should have this information and be able to login. If you would like your child's unique login please reach out to their homeroom teacher.
We look forward to partnering with ALL of our families to create the most ideal learning environment for each of our Wildcats!

Importance of School Attendance
To stay on track in school, students need to be present every day. Missing 18 or more days of school in a year puts a child’s high school graduation at risk. Being absent for just two days every month of the school year can put a child behind academically.
Students with regular attendance are more likely to read well by third grade and score higher on tests. They also tend to be more engaged in school and feel better about themselves.

What are the 7 Mindsets?
1. Everything is Possible
Dream big, embrace creativity and expect results
Everything is Possible provides an understanding that we are all capable of living extraordinary lives. We learn that everything that exists was once an idea until someone believed it was possible and made it a reality. Embracing this principle will allow you to envision a wonderful life, expect greatness, and effectively execute the process of making your dreams come true.
2. Passion First
Pursue your authentic talents and deepest interests
Passion First teaches that we are each a unique expression of human existence and that our lives should be focused on finding our unique genius and sharing it with the world to the maximum extent possible. You will learn to make your dreams authentic, and of such critical importance that you'll find the fuel to overcome the obstacles you're certain to face along the way.
3. We Are Connected
Explore the synergies in all relationships and learn to empower one another
We Are Connected teaches us to understand that everyone who comes into our lives can assist us in living our dreams. By applying this mindset, you will learn to constantly explore synergies with others, embrace diversity, and relish competition that will help you maximize your potential with and through others.
4. 100% Accountable
Choose to be responsible for your own happiness and success
100% Accountable teaches that you are not a victim of your past, your future is not predetermined, and your life is what you choose it to be from this moment forward. With a focus on recognizing fears and excuses, this mindset allows you to break down barriers, free your mind, and focus your energy to take critical steps toward accomplishing your goals.
5. Attitude of Gratitude
Seek positives from every experience and be thankful for all you have
An attitude of Gratitude teaches that you can choose the positives or the negatives in your life as the foundation on which to build your future. Choose the positives, and you're on your way toward extraordinary success; choose the negatives, and you will likely start (or continue) a downward spiral.
6. Live to Give
Inspire and serve others while maximizing your potential
Live to Give teaches that abundance in one’s life is a cycle. To receive love, respect, and financial security, one must first learn to give those things. This mindset also teaches that the greatest gift you can ever give is to find and leverage your unique genius to maximize your positive impact on the world, knowing that good things will be returned to you in kind.
7. The Time is Now
Harness the power of this moment, and take purposeful action today
The Time is Now teaches that all your power exists in the moment. You cannot change the past and the future hasn't happened, so the only thing to do is take purposeful action now in order to create the ultimate life of your dreams.
