## Our First SMORE!

I'm hoping that this is an easy way to keep our classroom's families updated. Rather than the traditional paper newsletter that's printed and sent home, a "SMORE" is a way for me to send updates right to your inbox (or as a text message). If you don't have a data plan for your cell phone, and don't check your email regularly, I can print a copy for you too. Just let me know! =)

## Math Unit 7

Students worked through math Unit 6. They were challenged to:

• Read, make, and use picture graphs and tables to compare data
• Solve comparison story problems

The mathematicians began Unit 7 and are working on:

• Finding doubles of numbers 1 through 10 and doubles of shapes
• Finding one half and one fourth of a geometric figure and of a set
• Telling time to the hour and half hour

## Personal Narratives

We've picked our stories and have added new details to them. Now we're sharing, adding more details, and giving other authors in our classroom feedback about their stories. We'll share and add more details two or three more times and then spend time organizing our details. Then we'll send the stories home for a final share and revision. Once finished, we'll send the stories home for at-home fluency practice and start illustrating at school.

## We Have a Micro-Garden!

On Tuesday, we had an unexpected delivery outside our classroom door. Mrs. Parks and Mrs. Rivkin delivered two micro-gardens, dirt, seeds, seed starter trays, and lots of books about gardening.

We took time to plant a variety of micro-greens which include a variety of lettuces, carrots, onions, radishes, parsley, spearmint, cilantro, and peas. Students will study plants while caring for their micro-garden. When they've grown enough, we'll harvest our crop and eat it!

The Elementary and Middle School Newsletter is available to view via the school's website at www.southerndoor.k12.wi.us.

If you are unable to access it, or wish to receive a paper copy of the monthly newsletter, please send a note and I'll forward it to the office. The newsletter will then be sent home in your child's BEE Book.

## Classroom Wishlist Items:

Our classroom is in need of the following... If you are able to send any in-THANK YOU!

## Talking Animal Reports

We've been trying to incorporate more "creation" projects into our schedule using the iPads and other desktop apps. Earlier this year we created "Bug Stories" using the app Build a Bug and Audacity. Recently we just finished Talking Animal Reports using the apps Hello Crayons and Chatterpix. You can see them on YouTube using the link below!
