Hawk Squawk 8/6/20
Message from Principal Griffiths
It's hard to believe August is already here - but exciting to know that the beginning of school is just around the corner. Although school won't be what we are all used to, we are happy we will be back together virtually for the time being. We all miss seeing our Hallinan Family!
We will start sending out the Hawk Squawk newsletter weekly, on Thursdays, beginning this week, so that we can provide you with the most up-to-date back to school information available.
First day of School: Tuesday, September 8
Meet and Greet: Mark your calendars for September 2-4 for Meet and Greet. Teachers will send out class communication and Meet and Greet sign-up links on August 25. During the Meet and Greet time, students will meet their teacher, check out a device and pick up curriculum and school materials. Details regarding Smart Start will be forthcoming.
School Supplies: If you ordered school supplies through the PTO, they will be available during Meet and Greet for pick-up. If you did not order school supplies last spring, the recommended supply lists can be found here, but please feel free to use supplies that you already have at home.
I know you have a lot of questions regarding class placement and cohorts - we hope to have more information next week. Please note that finalized cohorts will be sent to families on August 25.
Sending Hallinan hearts and hugs to you all.
LOSD hosted two Informational Sessions this week to walk through the two choices for students -- Hybrid and LO Online -- and answer questions. Both Informational Sessions were recorded and are posted here on the LOSD website. Additional information can be located on the FAQ page on the Roadmap to Reopening homepage.
Important Reminder: the deadline for signing up for LO Online is this Friday, August 7 by 5 p.m. Because the program has been extended for a full year, all interested students must reapply if you haven’t already done so since Wednesday, July 29. Student enrollment will determine the teachers selected to teach in the LO Online program for the year. Click here for the sign up form -- please submit one form for each student.
Students interested in Hybrid do not need to sign up.
The Hallinan Elementary Renovation Project will bring significant improvements to the forty-year-old facility, including upgrades in safety and security, technology and seismic and infrastructure. A lot of progress has been made since our last report. The Innovation Lab now has walls and a roof! We've included a photo below. In addition, footings for the steel bracing at the Outdoor Playground have been completed; concrete work has begun on the planter and outdoor classroom; and the entry canopy is starting to go up.
