The J-Hawk Experience!
Info you need to know for week of December 11-15!
Message from the principal
Teachers can assess student learning in their finals in a variety of methods (test, project, presentation, etc). If they have not shared with students yet, teachers will be sharing this week about their final exam format in their classes. Below are expectations during finals days. Seminar time is intended for students who need to make up learning and/or other assessments with teachers during semester finals days. Due to all students having lunch at the same time and not being able to accommodate all students at once, all students will have the opportunity to have open campus lunch during finals days, meaning they can leave campus and then return for their next final.
Expectations:
• Students are required to be in attendance for ALL of their scheduled classes.
• PE classes will be a Day 1 (juniors and seniors) during finals days.
- Students are not required to come to Learning Centers during finals days.
• Students will remain in their testing areas the entire testing period.
• All students must be in supervised areas of the building or must leave campus. Those supervised areas include the UHS Library Media Center or the lunchroom.
• Lunch will be available at UHS during each day of semester examinations.

Therapy dogs available through UHS Counseling Office
Please come to the UHS Counseling Office to sign up for a therapy dog appointment. Spots are limited, so they will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Appointments will be available each morning from 7:30am-8:00am and also during lunch break from 11:30am-12:30pm.
Students review their second semester schedule
Students viewed their second semester schedules in Connections this week and the following information was shared:
- Students need to make sure they are scheduled for the required/core classes they requested (PE, math, English, social studies, science, resource, ESL). If a student is not scheduled for a required/core class we can add that.
- Students need to make sure all 8 periods appear on their schedule. If this is not the case, please let a counselor know.
- Requests for switching teachers will be not honored.
- Requests for switching periods within the same class will not be honored.
- We can honor requests to add a class in place of a learning center only if space allows.
- Students can drop a course to add a learning center if they do not already have a daily learning center.
- It is possible that a student could have a different teacher than he/she has this semester for any of his/her classes due to scheduling conflicts. It is not a mistake if you see that on your schedule.
- The last date to submit a schedule change form is Dec 19th by 3:30. If the counselor is not present please leave it in their respective mailboxes. This form must be signed by a parent before that time.
UHS Counselor course and career planning on Naviance with students
scholarships, recommendation letters, and completing the FAFSA. Juniors also focused on courses for senior year by finalizing their 4-year plans.
In December, we will be working with freshmen and sophomores on Naviance as well. They will be working on their personal strengths as they relate to possible career pathways. They will also begin doing some college research and figuring out best matches in regard to college choice. We will focus on 4-year plans as well. Students will begin scheduling for next year right after winter break, so it will be very important for them to work hard on Naviance activities and the 4-year plan because we will upload these courses directly into PowerSchool to ease the scheduling process. Parents are encouraged to log on with their students to see the plans and the other tasks they have completed this fall. You can access Naviance by going to our website at www.uhsguidance.com and choosing the Naviance link under the column titled UHS Counseling Department Info.
As always, if there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your student’s counselor at UHS.
