News and Notes
- State Assessment Training on March 5th at 8AM- On Tuesday, March 5th we will have our yearly state assessment training session from 8-8:40. The following individuals need to attend:
- Classroom Teachers in Grades 3-6
- Special Education Teachers and Paras that work with students in grades 3-6
- Literacy Tutors
- Special Education Paras please communicate with your assigned Special Education teacher to determine how you will flex your time. A few options would be to leave 30 minutes early during the week of March 4th (Monday through Thursday) or to come in 30 minutes late on Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Lit Tutors, please share with Beth Baldwin how you will flex your schedule in order to attend this training.
- Staffing- A second grade teacher has been selected and that will be board approved on Monday. Based on our large class sizes and number of IEPs an additional third grade teacher will be added for the next school year. An interview will take place on Monday for our 4th grade opening. We continue to look for an ECSE para and a SOARS para. There will be some room changes that will need to occur, and I will be analyzing options after Spring Break.
- Personal Days- Reminder that per board policy personal absences for certified staff must be approved by both the superintendent and principal during 4th quarter. For classified staff please submit time off at least three school days in advance.
- Field Trips- Field trip forms for the rest of the year are due by Friday, March 8th.
- Feedback on Current Schedules- It is hard to believe that we are already at the time of year that we are working on next year's master schedule. Laura and I truly value feedback from ALL BES staff regarding schedules, so we are collecting information via the link directly below. I ask that anyone willing to share their feedback fill out this quick 3 question survey before Spring Break. Thanks in advance!
- Mindfulness Moments Beginning 4th Qtr- We will be piloting a mindfulness moment at the very end of announcements beginning 4th quarter.
- Clarification on Ladner- Our BES staff and students love having Officer Ryan at BES. Just a few reminders about Officer Ryan's role:
- Officer Ryan's primary role is to support administration in safety. Thus, if a student is struggling the administrative team should be contacted first, and then they will contact Officer Ryan if necessary.
- Officer Ryan's prearranged breaks with kids will be no more than 5-10 minutes. If he misses a break as he is supporting another student he will not make up this time.
- If a student in grades P-4 is requesting Officer Ryan please send him an email.
- Officer Ryan is on the playground each day to support students in 5th and 6th grade.
- End of Day Dismissal Needs- Our hallways are extremely crowded during bus dismissal and we ask for a staff member on each grade to support students in the hallway at this time to increase supervision and ensure students are safely walking to the bus stop.
- Rocks in Playground- It is almost that time of year where the facilities team will need to mow the lawn. Please have students keep rocks out of the grass as it can hurt our lawn equipment.
- Staff Workday- Staff are welcome to spend their workday in any location as long as grades are completed by 4:00 on 3/8. Classroom teachers, please ensure you are calibrating with others on your grade level regarding which standards you are entering grades for in 3rd quarter.
