Cold Weather Practices
As we approach winter, we would like to share information regarding Union Chapel’s cold weather practices, which are in keeping with the PHSD Parent-Student Handbook (p.39). "On days when the temperature and/or wind chill is above 20 degrees Fahrenheit and the playground is cleared of snow and ice, there will be outdoor recess." Please send coats, gloves, hats, etc. daily with students to ensure they are prepared for outdoor recess any day the temperature or wind chill is above 20 degrees.

Sharing Smiles
We invite you to share with us a photo of your child(ren) highlighting their community service, academic recognition, arts awards, athletic accomplishment, or another exciting recognition that makes them smile. We will share it with our community on our Sharing Smiles bulletin board as you enter UC. As your family has special events over the summer, keep in mind anything that might be good for the Sharing Smiles board. Please send the digital photo of your child(ren) with a short explanation of the special event to Susan Sadler at sadlers@parkhill.k12.mo.us
Each month we will share new ‘smiles’ for all to see!
Miles of Smiles
Miles of Smiles, Inc. provides free dental care to children in the Northland who do not have access to oral health services. The dental care is provided by a licensed dentist and assistants at Union Chapel from November 27th through December 12th. Miles of Smiles treats children from the ages of 3 to 18, and 75% of the treatment provided is fillings and extractions. All Miles of Smiles patients receive a comprehensive exam, cleaning and x-rays.
Miles of Smiles is currently at Union Chapel! It’s not too late to sign up. If you are interested in participating in the program, please contact school social worker Ellie Hart at 816-359-5733 or harte@parkhill.k12.mo.us. The Miles of Smiles application is also available online: https://www.milesofsmilesinc.org/ . Union Chapel would like to help all our students see a dentist!
Helping Children Cope with Tragedy
It is a sad fact that all children need to know how to deal with tragic events—and their parents and caregivers need to know how to help them cope.
This month's Report to Parents, Helping Children Cope With Tragedy, offers families tips for how to help their child cope in the wake of a disaster or tragic event.

Park Hill Stars
The Park Hill Star recognition program was started in 2015 to celebrate support staff and teachers whose work is especially noteworthy. Recently, PHSD Superintendent Dr. Jeanette Cowherd visited Union Chapel to congratulate three staff members who were nominated by parents and students. Pictures of these visits are below.

The following is an overview of the Park Hill Star Program:
Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students.
That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee.
