Computer Chronicles
Version 4.2, June 2015
All Good Things Must Come To An End
- Teachers - Be sure you have collected anything you want to keep from your computer and H: drive before you leave. It needs to be on the Google Drive or on a USB thumb drive. It will be deleted July 1st.
- If you have been issued a Chromebook or iPad, you are welcome to keep it over the summer. Please fill out the online form here so we know who has what. If you are not keeping with you, please be sure it is secured in your classroom.
- If you are changing classrooms, your computer DOES NOT move with you. It is assigned to the classroom.
- If you have any questions, contact me Slack (@melson). Don’t have Slack yet? Get it!
DraftBack
With Draftback, your data is kept entirely private. Draftback was purposely designed so that you could play back your own docs without having to share them with a third party. This is -your- data; Draftback just lets you see it in a new way.
Draftback only needs access to docs.google.com to get the revision data for playback—but that data never leaves your own browser.
Control, protect, and secure your account, all in one place
The new "Accounts" page shows sign-in, device, ad and personal settings at a glance, and also has a pair of new wizards to help you review the whole shebang.
Paper to Digital in 200+ languages
Many of the world’s important sources of information - books, newspapers, magazines, pamphlets, and historical documents - are not digital. Part of the solution is scanning, getting a digital image of the page.
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology turns pictures of text into computer text that can be indexed, searched, & edited. For some time, Google Drive has provided OCR capabilities. Recently, we expanded this state-of-the-art technology to support all of the world’s major languages - over 200 languages in more than 25 writing systems.
Follow the steps here to covert scans into editable Google Docs: http://googleresearch.blogspot.com/2015/05/paper-to-digital-in-200-languages.html
