Community Update
December 2, 2022
Hello North Rockland Families:
It’s the most wonderful time of year in North Rockland!
From now until the holiday break, we have a variety of spectacular Winter Wonderland celebrations, Holiday Performances, food, toy and coat drives for our community and other very special events planned that you can find information on linked further below in today’s update. Please remind your children to listen to school announcements details on upcoming frosty spirit weeks, activities and seasonal events by building.
In keeping with the joy of the holidays I am proud to share the video below about a new initiative called “You Belong” at Stony Point Elementary this school year. The program harnesses the power of the positive phone call home via post cards filled with good deeds students exhibit.
Calling or writing students’ parents or guardians with good news encourages more good behavior and creates strong teacher-student bonds. We recognize all the wonderful things our students are contributing to their school’s culture. It’s because of them that North Rockland is such a unique place!
The start of the cold and flu season is upon us. If your child is experiencing flu or cold symptoms, including symptoms of COVID-19 please keep them home. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom. Hand washing and keeping children home if they may be sick or have been exposed is essential, crucial and vital to the success of in-person instruction.
Our custodial team is constantly, rigorously and carefully cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces, high traffic areas and high contact points daily to further reduce any risk of infection.

Red Raiders Make Big Donations!
The Voyagers Donate to Veterans!
During the month of November, Mrs. Goess and The Voyagers Team at Fieldstone were hard at work doing a holiday collection for our troops and Veterans, in honor of Veteran’s Day. Last week, the students organized all of the donations to meet and present to Navy Veteran, Second Class Petty Officer Thomas J. Hicks. In total, The Voyagers put together 15 bags of donations full of food and toiletries. We are so proud of this team! More photos.
We shared a pair to show we care! 🧦
Thiells Elementary students had their second annual sock drive last month and the results are in! A staggering 1,000 pairs of socks were collected during the drive and donated to Proyecto FARO who distributed them to families in need within our community. That’s a whopping 200 pair increase from last year!
Lead organizer Karen Tran explained that she and all the students involved were on a mission to help as many people as they could. “We are happy to know that people's feet will be warm this winter! Thank you to all who donated!” she said.
Did you know socks are the most needed, but least donated item to homeless shelters? Join our mission this holiday season and share a pair to show you care with your local shelter. More Photos.
NJROTC Cadet Support Rockland Road Runners Turkey Trot
Last week, North Rockland NJROTC cadets spent Thanksgiving morning working with BOE member Richard Fernandez handling food for the Rockland Road Runners’ 5 mile Turkey Trot for the Marisa fund.
It has become the largest running event in Rockland County, drawing over 3,100+ participants from the NY Metro area and beyond.
2022 was the 31st annual run. The money raised will support the efforts of the Marisa Fund to eradicate childhood cancer.
“It is a very worthy cause that we are happy to help,” said unit Commanding Officer Britany Narvaez. More photos.

Interact Club Holiday Collections
Toys for Tots and the Hats, Scarfs, Gloves, Mitten & Sock Drive are happening now. The club will also continue collecting winter coats. The spirit of holiday cheer encourages us towards generosity, and drives are a great way to help kids get into the giving.
PANDAS Shoe Drive
PANS/PANDAS is a medical condition that causes an autoimmune encephalopathy, resulting in varying degrees of psychiatric symptoms, learning issues and motor coordination disruptions. PANDAS stands for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections, or PANS-Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Syndrome. www.pandasnetwork.org. NR has joined forces with local families to participate in the PANDAS Network shoe fundraiser. The fundraiser is to increase awareness and provide support for PANDAS Research. Gently used or new shoes can be dropped off to our schools collection boxes like the on pictured below at Thiells Elementary.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Snow Day Policy ❄️
The New York State Department of Education ruled that School District’s are able to utilize the remote-learning technology implemented during the coronavirus pandemic to allow students to continue their studies on days when the snow is too heavy for them to commute to school. Some Districts across the state have adopted a policy that will eliminates traditional snow days all together, opting for a remote learning day During inclement weather. North Rockland will utilize traditional snow days until the three that are built into our calendar are exhausted. Once all of our traditional snow days have been used the District will utilize the remote option when possible.

If you are interested in adopting her please fill out an application on our website Hitor.org."
