Fall 2020

Dear Staff, Students, Parents, Guardians, & Community Members

I want to thank everybody for the great opening of the school year. Even with all the challenges due to the pandemic, we are all doing our best to ensure that Crestwood students continue to learn safely. Whether you are learning at school or at home, our staff will continue to work hard to help all of our students succeed.

Sincerely,

David Toth, Superintendent

Math Grant at CPS

Kristen Patton and Cindy Ducca wrote a grant for Greg Tang math materials (both online resources, classroom resources, and building resources ). We received the grant from the International Paper Company in Streetsboro for $3,750.00. They visited our primary school to present us with the check. We are very grateful for this grant because this will allow us to provide Greg Tang resources for every classroom both in-person and virtual.

Terrific Tuesdays at the Intermediate School

Terrific Thursdays - The PBIS Team has developed a theme for each Thursday. Very similar to spirit days/weeks, but we think it's a great way to get students and staff involved and have some fun!!

Middle School Positive Behavior Intervention Supports

The CMS PBIS committee met before the school year to refine our program. We will continue to use Devil Dollars, and this year, we plan to have students issue Devil Dollars to staff members. We are hoping that we will get to do some of the same things we did last Fall, such as the Kickball Tournament and Fall Festival. The committee will meet again on October 8th to plan our first event.

Our PBIS motto is Crestwood Cares… Cares for School, Self, and Others!

Pre Engineering/Coding at the Middle School

Fall trimester 6th-grade learners have already completed the Hour of Code: Minecraft and Hour of Code: Star Wars introductions to Computer Science. In the near future, the students will learn how to program a modified, simpler version of JavaScript called “Bootstraps” from www.wescheme.com Learners will code several characters to be used in a video game that will be pre-programmed for them.

The Scarlet Guard

The Crestwood Scarlet Guard looks a little different this year, but sounds the same! The band has been working together since July 13 this summer. They have completed a socially distant version of band camp and all summer practices. Students and families have adapted wonderfully to our new COVID procedures, and work diligently with Mrs. Adkins to create as much of a “normal” atmosphere as possible. Students have been playing outdoors, but the band is ready with special PPE of bell covers and face masks that still allow them to play their instruments, for when outdoors is not optional. Students this year are performing a baseball show entitled “Great American Pastime” which includes original music based on “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” The students’ uniform this year is black pants, band shoes, a ball cap, and their show shirt for the year: a red and gray baseball jersey. They are able to be both stylish and safe with uniforms they can wash at home!

Graphic Design at CHS

The CHS Art Department has a new class this year. The Graphic Design Internship class is an advanced graphic design class that also runs as an Inhouse internship. The students will gain a working understanding of the Adobe Suite: Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator and the students will also learn the technical aspects of running the new 64" large format printer which is capable of die-cutting, printing banners on vinyl, and large graphics and photos that can be printed on decal paper that is mounted to the wall or locker and perforated window decals which will allow you to see the printed graphic from the outside while being able to see through the window from the inside.
