Dear FSS Staff,
I hope you are ready for the rain. This is gearing up to be a wet month. Be proactive by building in brain breaks and activities that involve movement to help preserve sanity.
Our focus this trimester is Allocated Instructional Time (ALT) as ALS calls it. Tight planning around standards combined with tight teaching and avoiding unnecessary down time (minus the needed brain breaks) will bring a high success rate. We have so much to accomplish in Trimester 2 as well as squeeze in sufficient time for small group reteach/practice of Trimester 1 standards. Phew...we can do it!
Great job on benchmarks! I can hardly wait to share them with you. I am looking forward to meeting with grade levels over the next few weeks to look over them. We have pockets of great success and areas we will hone in on. We have a long way to go toward ALL students being proficient, but we're on the right track.
Speaking of our planning day...We will spend time discussing SBAC, reflect and create plans based on Benchmark 1 and schedule standards for the rest of the year. Please begin to ponder what standards, reports, lessons, technology...you will need to prepare for this day.
Defending common core math has come up in conversation quite a bit lately. It can be hard to explain to parents, friends and family. I found a few Youtube videos and articles that helped me share the difference between the "old and new." Find five minutes this week to watch the attached videos and read the Jo Bowler articles. Let me know what you think.
Have a wonderful first week in 2016!
