The TIGER Times
Yamhill Carlton High School
Week of February 18-23, 2019
An important workskill we are preparing our students for is being punctual and having good attendance. These two skills also contribute to their academic success. Of course, if students are ill, have a family emergency, or doctor appointments, we recognize these as excused absences and support their being absent.
Starting with second semester, we will be watching student absences and tardies more closely and holding students accountable. If a student receives three unexcused tardies, they will be given a warning and parents will be called. If they reach five tardies, they will receive a lunch detention.
If a student receives two unexcused absences, they will receive a warning and parents will be called. Should they receive another unexcused absence, they will receive a lunch detention.
In both cases, students will be asked to come up with a plan to remedy the unexcused tardies and unexcused absences. Our goal is to help students see the importance of being punctual and present for their classes and to help them achieve success academically.
This process is also designed to help fix any errors in our record keeping should we have incorect information in our system regarding an unexcused absence or unexcused tardy.
If you have questions, please feel free to give me a call or email me at schubertc@ycschools.org.
Sincerely,
Cindy Schubert

February is a Great Month to Catch Up
Seniors: No matter what you have (or haven't) accomplished so far, there's still time to make a plan for next year:
- Several Oregon college are still accepting applications for admissions. Focus on community college applications as well.
- Meet the Early Bird Deadline of Feb. 15th for the OSAC Scholarship. The regular application deadline is March 1. (All completed applications submitted by Feb. 15 will be entered into a drawing to win one of several $1,000 Early Bird Scholarships)
- This month is also a great time to visit the campuses of colleges where you’ve applied (or will apply soon), and confirm your FAFSA information (or submit your FAFSA/ORSAA if you haven't yet done so).
- Oregon Promise Grant deadline is June 3rd for students graduating this spring.
