QES Pioneer Campus Notes

Greetings QES Pioneer Families!

We are on our final stretch for the 2020-2021 school year. Please note - June 9-11 are shortened days. All students will be dismissed at 11:50 on those last 3 days of school. Additionally, all kindergarteners will attend school from 8:10-11:50 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

A big thanks to our wonderful PCO for sponsoring a field day on Friday, June 11. We appreciate all of their support throughout the year! Please have your child wear athletic shoes on Friday and anticipate that they may get a little wet.

Ms. Hollister and Ms. Molsee are excited to be planning and organizing for next year. Ms. Hollister will be the principal of both schools, and Ms. Molsee will be the assistant principal. They will be splitting their time between the two schools, with the goal of having one administrator on each campus the majority of the time. Both Ms. Hollister and Ms. Molsee are incredible, outstanding, caring educators, and compliment the caring and committed QES Pioneer team supporting your children. Quincy Elementary students will be in excellent hands with the outstanding educators supporting your children at the Pioneer and Alder campuses.

Hello Alder Families:

Happy Friday! And happy last week of school before summer break!

6th Grade Promotion will be Thursday, June 10th at 6:30 on the upper terrace. 6th graders may bring 6 guests each and need to arrive at their classrooms at 6:00.

This week will be a spirit week with dress-up days and activities planned for each day. Check the flyer below for details about each dress-up day. Monday is "Decades Day" and students may dress for any era of their choosing. Your student will not want to miss it! A reminder that the last 3 days of school, June 9-11, will include 12:00 dismissal times.

Our second to last week of school brought a lot of excitement! Our 6th graders were visited by Principal Brown, Mrs. Dupras, and members of the student body to learn what to expect from 7th grade. They were able to complete their elective request, hear about clubs, and all the ways to show school spirit and get involved at QJSHS.

Second graders visited QES Alder to meet all of the adults who will be helping them learn next year. They visited the 3rd-grade classrooms, saw the library, cafeteria, playground and, most importantly, learned where the restrooms are!

Our Advanced Band students returned from the All County Band Day at the Fairgrounds with a "Superior" rating. We are all so proud!

5th graders performed a play about all of the different people who have immigrated to the US to make it the country we know and love. The play is a musical called, "They Came from Everywhere." They did a fantastic job! Thank you to Mrs. Lemnah and Mr. Trujillo for the work done to provide your students this experience in spite of the current health restrictions.

Looking for enriching learning opportunities for your child(ren) this summer? Don't miss Camp Invention. Please see information below.

Please remind your child to bring a reusable water bottle. The weather is heating up and we cannot use our drinking fountains due to pandemic protocols.

If you have any concerns or suggestions we would love to hear them. Please do not hesitate to email lhollister@pcoe.k12.ca.us or call 283-6557. You can also contact Mrs. Hollister or your teacher using the Parent Square app.

Camp Invention

QES is bringing back Camp Invention, an engaging summer STEM camp. Check out their website for more information or to register your student. The camp is for incoming 3rd-6th graders and will run August 2nd-6th.

From their website,

"Fuel the imagination of your future world-changer with our innovative and FUN hands-on STEM experience"

5th & 6th Grade current music students - FREE SUMMER MUSIC LESSONS!

The district has very kindly offered to pay for "free" summer music lessons for any of our students who would like to continue studying on their instruments this summer! Please adapt this information as appropriate, and send this link out to all student and parent emails sometime this week.

--> The sessions will be with me via zoom. Students will need to log on from home or some other good location where they can get wifi.

--> The schedule will depend on which days and times a majority of families prefer, but each student will have one 30-minute group lesson on their instrument per week for eight weeks, from June 21st - August 13th.

--> Instruments will be provided by the school, as needed.
