What's Happening In Conway

6/12/2020 - CLASS OF 2020 EDITION

Message from Mr. Cravy and Mr. Dickinson

Dear Cougar Parents,

We want to start off by saying that we understand that there is a great deal of strife in our country right now. We recognize the worth of all persons regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender expression, or life circumstances. We also have many front line workers and first responders in our Conway Family. We support them and their families as they experience extra stress over the current situation as they protect and serve our communities.

If you would like more information on how to speak with your children about these topics check out these resources.

Welcome to our Class of 2020 edition. Some of our 8th graders didn't get their signs into the Virtual Ceremony, so we included them throughout the newsletter as well as a class photo.

As we are winding down our year, we want to thank you for all of your support and wish you well during the summer. Our hope is that you will have time to relax and when things open up to be able to do some traveling, even if it's just a few miles away to have fun.

Guidance for Fall: We will be developing plans for opening the school in the fall using the guidance we received from OSPI. We want to hear all voices as we develop those plans. We have asked for feedback through the survey we sent out on Tuesday. Staff will share their feedback and ideas with the administration next Tuesday. We value your input in the process. As we move forward we will contact parents to be part of our planning team.

If you haven't filled out the survey yet, check out the link below.

Chromebooks Needed by Your Student(s)!

We handed out over a 120 Chromebooks to help families during this closure. While we are not asking you to bring back the Chromebooks at this time, we are certain YOUR STUDENT WILL NEED THAT CHROMEBOOK IN THE FALL as a resource for learning. So please hold onto them!

If you did not request a Chromebook and will need one in the fall, we will send out messages in August to determine any additional Chromebooks that may be needed.

We will not have additional Chromebooks avaible for those that received them this spring during the closure!

June 15th - June 19th. Our activities will include:

  • We will not be sending home assignments for this week
  • Students can turn in any late work, final assignments
  • Teachers are planning fun "last week" of school activities
  • Connecting with families as we move into the summer on potential needs

Our food services will end on June 15th, but there are other options available through the state, check out the flyer at the end of this newsletter. Mt. Vernon will be providing breakfast and lunch to students during the summer at Laventure Middle School and Mt. Baker Middle School starting June 29th.

Find more information about P-EBT at this link. There's a calculator on this site to help you determine if you are eligible.

From OSPI:

OLYMPIA—Because schools have been closed due to COVID-19, families in Washington state will soon have food benefits available to them to help buy groceries. Called Pandemic EBT, or P-EBT, these food benefits are available to families with children who are eligible for schools’ free or reduced-price meal programs.

If you are not part of the free or reduced meal program please contact Angela at the district office. apederson@conway.k12.wa.us or 360-445-5785 to sign up.

Library Books

PLEASE remember to bring back your library books on Friday during the parade. We are missing hundreds of books!

We need to get the books back into inventory so other kids can enjoy them! We also need them soon so we can integrate them into our new system of having books organized by Genre. If you have questions or are wondering if your child has a few books checked out, please contact Miss Holly at hgildnes@conway.k12.wa.us or Mr. Sill at asill@conway.k12.wa.us
