Dr. Rachel Williams, Principal
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
What a wonderful week of teaching, learning, and fun we’ve had here at Crabapple Crossing. Our teachers are being observed formally and our admin team has been in awe of the level of instruction we are seeing consistently in each classroom. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated staff.
I want to thank the Hatfield Family for organizing “Our Hero” luncheon on Tuesday of this week. The theme tied to the remembrance of 9/11. Special thanks to Mr. Hatfield for grilling outside in the hot weather. Our staff is so appreciative of being recognized monthly by our fabulous PTO and parents.
This week, I had the opportunity to meet with Summit Counseling Center. They will now be housed on our campus two days per week. You may know that they already provide in-school service at Northwestern and Milton. We are so fortunate to be one of the few schools to be able to provide this service to students in the school setting. A parent meeting will be held on October 10th at 6 pm. Please plan to attend so you can learn more.
Tonight is the Milton/Roswell game. It is one of our biggest rivalry games of the year. We hope to see you there!
"Here Comes the Bus" - Bus Tracking App Coming!
Beginning September 17, Fulton County Schools will offer a free app called “Here Comes The Bus” that allows parents to track their student’s school bus. The app uses GPS technology to locate and track a school bus. Similar to ride-sharing apps, buses will show up as an icon on a map, and parents can follow its progress at the bus moves toward their child’s stop.
To sign up, parents need their child’s student ID number and the Fulton County Schools’ code – 87428. After completing a brief user profile, the app is ready to use. Multiple students in the same household can be put on the same account, and using their Launchpad login, students can download the app to their cell phones or other personal devices to view their bus status.
The app is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store or parents can visit www.herecomesthebus.com to sign up. More information, including FAQs and troubleshooting information, also is posted here: https://tinyurl.com/HCTBapp.
Fulton County Calendar Change
Fulton County Schools Parents,
Superintendent Jeff Rose recently recommended a change to the district’s 2018-2019 School Year Calendar. At its August meeting, the Fulton County Board of Education voted to approve that recommendation.
This school year, November 6, 2018 has been changed from a regular school day, to a teacher work day. March 8, 2019 has been changed from a teacher work day, to a regular school day.
The decision alleviates safety concerns raised by some parents and staff, allows for additional staff training on safety protocols, and maintains instructional time for our students. Additionally, the Fulton County school board has expressed interest in addressing a long-term solution through the legislative process by removing schools as polling places.
The revised calendar is posted at this link. In addition, the district is re-printing the calendar and distributing the new version to families to eliminate any confusion. We have asked each school to also post the calendar to their website and send reminders of these changes using our telephone calling system.
Sincerely,
Fulton County Schools
Calling all volunteers!
Everyone interested in volunteering with students at Crabapple Crossing will need to register with Fulton County Schools prior to their volunteer shift. Fulton County Schools (FCS) updated their system over the summer and all volunteers, both new and returning, will need to complete the online registration. The process is simple and will take about 20 minutes to complete from home. To begin, follow the link, http://www.fultonschools.org/en/community/Pages/VolunteerRegistration.aspx.
Please complete this online registration at least 48 hours before you arrive at school to volunteer. Also, please be prepared to present your driver’s license to the front office staff the first time you come to volunteer.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
PTO Membership Reminder
Please support our students and staff by joining the PTO. Every dollar we raise is invested into a plethora of school programs and needs. Visit the PTO Webpage and register your family and have access to the e-handbook, calendar (Printable pdf) and all the information we will be updating. Thank you!
