Introducing SISD At-Home Learning - Assistant Superintendent Dr. Christi Morgan
Hello Raiders!
It’s time to reveal our Sunnyvale ISD At-Home Learning Program! Our team of dedicated faculty and staff members have been working together to design learning experiences that feel like the classroom, yet can take place in your home. Parents and students, know that we are here to partner with you throughout the process. We know there may be obstacles along the way, but we are all in this together!
Role of the Teacher in At-Home Learning:
Instructor - Our teachers will continue to provide quality instruction for your students through video lessons and paper-based lesson materials.
Communicator - Our team will be reaching out to parents and students on a bi-weekly basis to answer questions and offer assistance.
Nurturer - As educators, we work hard to nurture the academic and emotional growth of our students. We will be available to support you and our students through this process, including specialized services to meet individual learning needs.
Role of the Student in At-Home Learning:
Learner - Students will log-in to Google Classroom to view learning standards and tasks to demonstrate their knowledge. Teachers are videoing themselves teaching lessons, posting lessons from district-provided resources, and posting learning activities for students.
Elementary - Students will use Google Classroom to get their daily plan for learning, which includes Reading, Word Work, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Specials (PE, Art, Music, Makerspace/STEM, and library).
Intermediate - Students will log-in to Google Classroom to get their weekly plan and will participate in learning experiences designed by their pod teachers. Lessons will include reading, writing, math, science, social studies, art, PE, music, typing, and read-alouds from the library.
Middle School and High School - Teachers for each course will post weekly lessons in Google Classroom. Learning will take place through online interaction, video-based lessons, and completion of learning tasks.
Leader - Students will have the opportunity to take charge of their learning through determining their own schedule for learning. Participation in At-Home Learning and completion of assignments will be used as proof of school attendance. Our counselors plan to provide support in weekly tips for organization and mindfulness!
Role of the Parent in At-Home Learning:
Supporter - Many are experiencing stress during this time, and parents play a huge role in providing a supportive environment for their children to learn. Younger children may need more support in accessing and organizing their learning. Teachers will be taking grades, and progression in the At-Home Learning program will be considered for promotion, grade points, and course credit.
Provider - Think about how you might help your student set up a space and schedule for At-Home Learning. Each plan is flexible and can be completed on a schedule that works for your family. We will also be distributing learning materials and requested technology through car pick-up lanes on SATURDAY MARCH 21. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A NEW, EARLIER DATE THAN ORIGINALLY PLANNED. We are working to ensure this is a safe and healthy process.
Elementary - Pre-K 8:00 a.m., Kinder 9:00 a.m., 1st Grade 10:00 a..m., 2nd Grade 11:00 a.m.
Intermediate - Yellow 9:00 a.m., Blue 10:00 a.m., Turquoise 11:00 a.m.
Middle School and High School - 9:00 a.m.
When you arrive, please display a sign with your Child’s Name and Teacher on the dash of your car. If you are unable to pick-up materials during this time, we will work with you to be sure students have what they need to begin At-Home Learning. If you have requested technology, we ask for your patience as we work to distribute devices and agreements as quickly as possible.
Learner - Our At-Home Learning program offers a chance for you to see how your child is learning and may offer the opportunity for you to learn more about our instructional technology resources. Please know we may have trouble with some online resources due to the number of students across the country that are transitioning to at-home learning. We have also created a webpage just for you!
