MEDIA LITERATE
What do I think the media is? Well, Media in my thoughts are journalists, someone that makes out news that may be true and or false. The reason some things in the media may be false because sometimes it’s probably to hurt someone or just to get a bigger story or something with more talk about (popular). Media is the way the world communicates together with things such as radio, television, newspapers, and anything on the internet. Throughout the years we humans are being more and more attached to our cellular devices and cannot let go or be without for an extended period of time. Whenever you have extra time like waiting in line or anything lazy your there refreshing over and over again, and that’s just to see what new news comes in to view or read about. In many ways Media keeps keep you updated in an entertaining form depending on the way you wish to view it to your liking.
“Media Literate” if I had to put that out together it would be to be media actual. Your Communications are accurate. Literate itself means being able to read and write or someone that is well- educated. {“Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media. Media literate youth and adults are better able to understand the complex messages we receive from television, radio, Internet, newspapers, magazines, books, billboards, video games, music, and all other forms of media”}. Media is permanently apart of our lives in this generation and generations moving on forward from here it only gets better.

What will I do?
My favorite person in this life is my little sister she’s 9 years younger than me. I have done a various amounts of reading on how younger kids watch their parents text and drive. They think it is okay to do so because their parents do it. Just at this moment I asked her “what can i do to make you not text and drive?”. Her response was that she wouldn’t she thinks it’s bad, being so young hearing that is a relief but she think if you see anybody on their phone you should call the police because it’s illegal. I, myself will take the “texting and driving...it can wait” sponsored by at&t (or #x) pledge.
Although when it comes to drinking and driving I will NEVER be the one to do so. Just today i found out someone from my church a couple passed away due to someone drinking and driving. My dad reminds me almost every time that it could be me driving super cautiously, but someone else could be driving recklessly to cause fatality on my life or someone else's. To stop this as well i will pledge to the “MADD”.
Finally to really truly stop people and my peers to stop drinking and driving and texting and driving i will let them know and shame them for doing because they think it’s cool to do so. I believe it is true when you tell people or your friends or family about the wronging of their actions they will no longer do it, because you influenced and helped them overcome. Join the #x pledge save others lives and PLEASE don’t drink and drive.SMORE 3

Snickers:Marilyn Monroe
In the Super Bowl commercial of (2016) Snickers company made by Franz Mars describes the struggles that “you're not you when you're hungry”. The Snickers company broadens their stance by describing how Marilyn Monroe (Willem Dafoe) in this part of the scene is arguing about the making of the ad, and how it’s pointless and “who would stand over a subway thing like this?!”. This commercial explains how women argue with everything and get in a bad mood without having one of their snickers bar; but to be honest I think women or everyone get irritable without having food. This audience is portrayed ou to be for everyone because everyone needs a snickers “you're not you when you're hungry” so have a snickers!

Fathers in Media
In the advertising field, I see it as women are always the responsible ones and can never count on men/dads to do it or anything right. Fathers in Media are constantly messing up of always playing the “women role” as you may portray it. Society being affected by advertising only occurs when it’s harmful or making someone upset when they really notice what’s going on in the ad. These commercials depict men as un-cautious and irresponsible you can’t even leave your father of the child home alone for 5 days without something going wrong without mom says one of the commercials. Women in these section of commercials are viewed as strong and take over the so called “men's role” in these commercials example the Kia commercials where she parked uphill for her husband and he looked or proclaimed to be the innocent/scared one. The message to society about these respected genders are that women and men can always role reverse society just needs to get use to it in my opinion. If these roles were reversed society wouldn't have any type of problem with it because it's clearly normal to them in the kia one. In all the other one women would be TERRIBLY upset because it would make us look dumb and that we don’t care for our children when we birthed them.

Manipulating Media
So, the videos we just watched in class were about couples on valentine's day and their perception of what valentine's day is/means. Each one of the couples argued about something in everyone of the videos trying to promote something. Arguments/humor draws you to remember them or use them because they manipulate you to show you “hey this really does works!!” The ad in this i found that men really think women are dumb (in the stunt driving one) one of the men got into his blind dates car and she told him “let me show you what this thing can do” portraying she doesn’t know what she's doing. As you might know in the end she ends up showing him what it can do because she's a stunt driver and he confesses to it “no you showed me how to drive this”.The ad i felt that really made you go into your feelings is the one with the dog they are promoting the YOGA tablet. It’s a good prime example of manipulating you. They show a couple arguing about whatever it was and the dog holding a leash just wanting to go on a walk like they use to go together as a family when they first got the dog and happy together. Then showing the couple go out somewhere and the dog is home on the couch watching a slideshow of their relationship with the dog in it. and watch how happy they were, and this is very manipulating because it makes you feel extremely sad for the dog and watching them fight all the dog wants to do is a walk, but really it’s the movie or slideshow they were showing that the tablet projected that onto the the wall via YOGA tablet. https://www.smore.com/82wyd/edit?ref=show_authorSMORE 6

Should Apple fix?
Reading all three of these articles as my assignment today really opened up my eyes how much apple cares about their customers (people’s person as others are calling it). It is quite outstanding that each article gives the FBI’s side and Apple’s side in this investigation and as well probably the truth. When reading article #3 the FBI’s perspective it didn’t seem very true to me. When you compare both and their information about it the FBI seems to be lying. I mean come on now it’s the government they’ll lie to the people just to get you to think what they want you to think. Apple said for themselves they can’t do it for just one phone or even certain phones because whoever is taught how to do this will do it on other people’s phone while just having access to it in their hands. Anybody that owns an iphone has something in it they don’t want anybody to see article #2 says “ ….store an incredible amount of personal information, from our private conversations to our photos, our music, our notes, our calendars and contacts, our financial information and health and data, even where we have been and where we are going.”(3) Therefore, in this case I do not think apple should fix this issue. They honestly shouldn’t be forced to make this software at all, it puts everyone in danger.SMORE 7

Agree or Disagree?
“Patriotism means supporting your government during times of war”, I disagree with this statement that referred in the 1984 book. The sole definition of Patriotism is the love people share and have for their country. You can be against everything somebody says and in this case it’s the government, but as long as you have a real intention for the faith of your country, therefore you ARE a patriot. No matter what happens in the government you may disagree with how some things are being done, but you never turn your back. Everyone loves the freedom and sort of security we have but certain laws that we have to go by, we must because it’s there to protect us citizens. For example the law that happened and occurred after 9/11 that has to do with the government checking our constant activity, us citizens are against letting strangers being in our privacy but we must to have security in this country or to prevent this type of horror happening again. Times of war doesn’t necessarily mean fighting in a war or have to do with our troops; it’s the war the government has with itself truly.

In my Politifact research I found that I wanted to pick things that were rated true on the meter. Facts are what people like to hear when choosing a candidate. With each thing of republican candidates Trump was focused on oil field and making money(business aspects), Rubio was concerned with the army and families. On democratic side Sanders wants free schools for students ‘tuition-free’ just like it once was years ago worldwide, and Hillary wants to raise the raises within the last 15 years with the decline of 7 percent. I honestly don’t think most people fact check their candidate they just believe what others tell them. Never rely on media to tell us the truth because even certain new casts put down the other party to get you to be for the other. If you don’t look up the truth it might be pretty ‘fateful’ because they could really just be saying it to get you to vote for it anybody can say something and it may not be true even if they think it’s false always look it up to be sure!SMORE 9

Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was so powerful because of the Holocaust that had been occurring at the same times. The holocaust was all about the jews being discriminated against. Therefore the reason this resistance was so powerful during the Holocaust was, millions of Jews got on trains destined for places they didn’t know existed or to even where they were going. Thousands worked in forced labor and millions lived in concentration camps, slowly dying a cruel death.
Jews who died in gas chambers caused a serious cause the issue of why the resistance was mute until as late as mid-1942, most Jews were unaware about the final step of their process. Stripped of clothing, facing starvation and disease combined with most Jews that thought they were being relocated to work. For really all of the jews, the reality that they faced death did not occur until the doors of the gas chamber were sealed and having toxins poured onto them from above the chamber, the lights were turned off and the gas filled the rooms. But by then, it was too late for any jews to repeal.
The jews who did resist either by running from the trains or attacking their captors faced death. Some jews that took advantage of this opportunity were killed on spot. Others chose to take their own lives when faced with the ‘hopelessness’ of the situation. It might be argued that suicide under these circumstances was itself resistance. For others that decided not to commit suicide, but rather to make an attempt at survival to be sorrow of this situation was their resistance. Those that resisted more actively/often found that any form of success consisted in having consequences. “Jewish prisoners rose against their guards at three killing centers. At Treblinka in August 1943 and Sobibor in October 1943, prisoners armed with stolen weapons attacked the SS staff and the Trawniki-trained auxiliary guards.” Therefore, If a Nazi soldier was murdered by a Jew, not only was that Jew executed, but also his family and perhaps a hundred others. Causing then what Jews carried out as an active resistance from fear of vengeance.

Winston & Snowden are the same
Winston Smith, is a worker at the Ministry of Truth, he is accountable for propaganda and ‘negationism (rewriting history books so that they support the upper party)’. Winston Smith is described as a "diligent and skilful worker," but he secretly dreams of rebelling against Big Brother.
Edward Snowden is an American computer specialist, a former employee of the Central Intelligence Agency and a former contractor for the National Security Agency. Edward Snowden was secretly distressed by its "massive surveillance machine" and leaked some of the government's secrets.
Even though Winston Smith never had the opportunity to tell what he had discovered or thought because no one would ever believe him, Edward did and he jumped on that chance, but both had access to what the average person does not have access to, and came to believe that the job they were doing was not just an ordinary job but that it was not only wrong what they were doing and it was pointless. Snowden and Winston also did not know why they were doing what they did or for who they were doing it for. The "Threatening" Technology in the book "1984" the citizens of Oceania are
kept under close and careful surveillance by telescreens. Citizens in every country in the world – excluding the US - are kept under surveillance by computer screens attached to the internet.
Therefore, Winston Smith and Edward Snowden are the same, they both worked for something similar to "state security" and they were both revolted by what the government was doing, because of technology, there’s no privacy, and the fact that no one knew or if they didn't it's that they didn't seem to care. They both wanted to rebel against it. The difference is that Edward Snowden had the chance to rebel, and Winston didn’t.

Technology in 1984
In 1984, you might think of CCTV and surveillance cameras, but the technology used in the novel is more than just that. While using cameras to monitor crime could be viewed as fellow “Big Brother” himself in the action, both the United States and the United kingdom use it with the help protect the community. The technology used in Orwell’s story actually includes 2-way tvs that let you communication. The screens never really were thought to have had cameras installed in them as the modern-day technology does with their plasmas and 3D tvs or even smart tvs. The communication was through the screen itself! This type of technology has not been made yet, but it is worth bringing up that the fact that when the novel was written in 1949 technology had not advanced to what we know today. There were no laptops computers, or Internet, and the most significant type of electronic technology most houses had was a radio. The tv’s described in George’s book must have been developed over time and would have gone through a process of all the modern updates and upgrades, so it is surely that it all could have started from the video communication that we have right now.

Happiness vs. Freedom
My thoughts on happiness vs. freedom is in our government today we choose happiness over freedom. In our time today we know the true reason to why people might choose happiness over freedom; happiness is easy and freedom is hard. What I mean by that is the single-minded pursuit of happiness requires little thought or responsibility. By nature, it's selfish and self-absorbed. When you don't have to worry about anyone else, life is easy. Not better, just easy. Freedom always always has a price to pay along with it. Someone had to fight to get it, and someone has to fight to keep it; because someone always wants to take it away from you. Freedom is hard because it generally requires tolerance of others' rights, even when that may interfere with your happiness. Freedom is the hard choice but without freedom there can probably be no happiness, and too many aren't willing to make the necessary sacrifices for freedom.

Gaslighting is when you mess with another person's thought. Telling them that they “misremembered” something. That they didn’t see what they thought they say because they were being told otherwise. It’s like you stuff sometimes you can see for yourself clearly like “Did you see that girl, she's pregnant” and someone tells you no they're not, like you clearly know because there's a big baby bump! Another politician that is a gaslighter is Hillary Clinton, Hillary Clinton is not what we call a politician anymore she is what we now call a “super politician” no conscience no empathy we can talk about how she ended up this way but first we have to stop her. To overcome a gaslighter you need to not fight with the person or don’t argue with the gaslighter. Leave the gaslighter alone they will never change.

Correct Humanity
In humanity we are so connected to our technology we disconnect from the world, what technology once was meant to be used for is misused in today’s society. If you think about the video approximately 4 years of your life today is spent on your technology, and that right there is 4 years of life you could have spent with someone you love and cherish dearly. Some people are sitting in the hospital at this moment being told they have a certain amount of time to live on this earth; let’s say it’s 4 years they are going to wish that every person would take that time away on their phone and spend that time with actual conversation. Prince Ea’s views and rap about Humanity gives live facts of us humans and comparison how we are becoming dumb with having an attention span of a fish but the funny thing is we have less than one second than a fish does. This reality is being more and more permanent as technology becomes more normal and less active. Look at us sooner or later we'll have a mobile hoverboard chair moving us around from place to place like the movies so we don’t have to walk anymore. What is even more closer is the laziness of self driving car that are soon to be coming out. To prevent this almost permanent situation this video needs to go viral for everybody to see it. I know especially us teenagers will be the most to understand this because our generation was the generation to test this technology, we grew up with this being made in the process. I feel like everyone has an impact when they watch this video no matter who you are even some of the creators of social media look at this and think “dang, i did this” or think to themselves it was just all for the money. Billionaire people don’t think whether or not their invention is harming or helping something because they could care less as long as it’s money in their bank account.
This addiction isn’t something most of us can control because people are so focused on trying to be cool or look famous by constantly being on their phones. There’s actual addictions to social media and to always be posting. In certain countries like Japan (i'm pretty sure it’s that one) they have pronounced it to be actually true and that some people seek help. I think we can control this because certain companies like cfa uses the family box where they put their phones in a little paper bag and give it to the workers and if they go through the whole meal without using their phones they receive a free ice cream cone. We need more companies like that. The way i am going to harness social media and use it for good is for my close friends and my dad. I also must show an example for my little sister so she isn’t constantly on her electronics.

Part 2
Starting from the beginning media literacy in my definition was all about the media... news mostly. As this course carried on i became more well informed on what it meant to me. Media has a lot to do with your mind and thinking process. At first i believed “Media in my thoughts are journalists, someone that makes out news that may be true and or false. “ and now; media means you have a say and to speak out it’s all about advertising and gender roll opinions. In this course I learned that things in media aren’t always what they seem to be, and to NEVER believe a new article or a story about something they always tweak it in the media to make the story sound much better than the truth. In this class I will be taking away with me the truth and my opinion will never be shunned or kept to myself if i ever disagree “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion”. This language arts class is much more different compared to language arts classes i’ve taken in the past because it’s more computer based. Usually in every class we learn about the past which is pretty insane we never learn about the present and what's going on now because teacher don’t care or don’t know how to explain it, but you do know how Mrs.Danley. Out of all the language arts classes I believe this one is one i will take on more information and keep it with me instead of soaking it up in one ear and out the other ear. The things that could be done differently…. Hmmmm, I really don’t think anything could have been done differently you have everything set up nicely. I just wish there was more CNN quizzes to help boost our grades :)
