Charles Ellis Montessori Academy, Week of Feb. 14th, 2022

Big picture

"every subject of our interest and study can be related to human beings, who have toiled, often starved, to overcome obstacles for its understanding, and to give us knowledge free from such pains. Everything is the fruit of a human soul, and we incarnate this harvest in education, this treasury of riches handed on to us by man. We must ourselves feel- and inspire in the children-admiration for all pioneers, known and unknown, possessors of the flame which has lighted the path of humanity." Maria Montessori

Misty Copeland is a dancer that I admire, not just for her great skill and beauty, but also for her perseverance. When she severely broke her leg she did not give up, but worked as hard as she could to rehabilitate her leg back to strength and superstar performance.

Like dancing, Montessori Education requires both balance and strength. In our thinking we must work our brain muscles to acquire all the information we need to reach a point of understanding and a balanced perspective. We must look out into the world to become curious and to forge new relationships with people we may not yet know. Also we must be great listeners, so that we can hear each other's hearts and the music of this universal dance.

Looking forward to a great BOOSTERTHON DANCE PARTY on THURSDAY!!!!!!

The Bobcat Roar

Many of you know that Erdkinder Communications students write and produce a weekly school broadcast, The Bobcat Roar. Students use the program WeVideo, a collaborative video software compatible with Chromebooks, to record the audio, add music, transitions, and video backgrounds on multiple tracks. Many thanks to PTA for funding the yearly subscription to WeVideo! With this subscription, students working on The Bobcat Roar can simultaneously contribute to the success of each episode from their own devices in school or at home.

New this week: students are using CANVA to create their own creative backgrounds for The Bobcat Roar. Listen and now VIEW each week for new interpretations.

Peace out, Bobcats!

Visit The Bobcat Roar to catch the latest episode!

Culture Fest

The virtual PTA Culture Fest will be shared with the Ellis community on Thursday, February 24th.

If your family would like to share a cultural performance (song, dance, food/recipe, etc.), please use this link to record a short video.

The deadline to submit a video is February 15th.

Help Send Our Montessorians to Nashville

Several of our teachers are spending their own money and vacation time to attend the American Montessori Society conference in Nashville, TN on March 17-20th.

An Ellis parent has taken the initiative to create a GoFundMe campaign to help these teachers offset the cost of the trip. If you would like to donate, visit the GoFundMe website.

Counselors' Corner

This week has been National School Counseling Week, highlighting how school counselors work with students to achieve school success. Click here to see our comprehensive school counseling program data thus far in the 2021-2022 school year.
