A Message from Mrs. Fantaskey

Laptop Breakage Reminders

I wanted to share an update regarding our screen break policy for student laptops. Our policy covers for two broken screens per device. If you child's laptop screen breaks three times, we will be required to send you an invoice for the repair and labor. The current cost is $200. Please remind your child to take special care of their laptop. Included below are some simple steps to assist in caring for the laptop:

  • Use two hands when holding or moving the device.
  • Use clean hands while using the laptop.
  • Use only the provided digital pen or finder on the screen.
  • Use a microfiber cloth to clean the screen.
  • When transporting the device, keep the device in the provided case. This includes traveling through the hallways, on buses, or anytime the device is not being used.
  • Make sure nothing is on the keyboard, close the lid and remove all cables if any are plugged into the laptop. Place laptop in your bag carefully.
  • Keep your device off the floor; always store in its bag.

White Cane Day ~ White Out on 10/14/22

At Doyle we are committed each day to accept, embrace, & inspire each other. As we celebrate our similarities and differences, this Friday, October 14th, we will show our support for White Cane Safety Day by having a Wear White - White Out Spirit Day.

What is White Cane Day?

In 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed a law that created White Cane Safety Day on October 15th every year. White canes are used by people who are blind or visually impaired and are tools for independence and safety. The mission of White Cane Day is to educate the world about blindness, and how the blind and visually impaired can live and work independently while giving back to their communities, to celebrate the abilities and successes achieved by blind people in a sighted world and to honor the many contributions being made by the blind and visually impaired.

Thank you to Mrs. Cox, our mobility and orientation specialist, Ms. Dettore, our teacher of the visually impaired, and Mrs. Herwig, our librarian for helping with this day.

K-6 Health Curriculum: A. T. O. D

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As part of the Central Bucks School District Elementary Health Curriculum, a unit entitled Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs is taught to pupils in grades K-6. The primary purpose of this program is to educate the children on the negative impacts of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs, as well as the impact of negative peer influences.

Your child’s teacher will teach researched-based lessons developed by Central Bucks teachers and certified school nurses. In order to deliver a consistent, cohesive curriculum, all Central Bucks teachers will deliver this curriculum during Red Ribbon Week, October 17, 2021-October 28, 2022. Course level goals and objectives can be found on the school district’s website: http://www.cbsd.org/Page/1497

Should parents wish to have their child excused from the program, they should send a written request to the attention of the principal. As always, please do not hesitate to call with any questions.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fantaskey

News from the Library

Jamar Nicholas Will Be Visiting Doyle on October 25th!

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Jamar Nicholas is an award-winning artist and educator who has dedicated his career to helping young people realize the power of cartooning. Jamar aims to promote anti-bullying, healing, and kindness in his work.

Leon is an ordinary kid who becomes extraordinary when he fights a supervillain to save his school!

In the city where Leon lives, superheroes -- and supervillains -- are commonplace. So how does an ordinary kid like Leon, who has no superpowers himself, become the superhero he wants to be? When all his classmates suddenly become obsessed with a new phone app that turns them into zombies, Leon gets his chance to prove that using his brain and following his heart can save the day.

Equal parts New Kid and The Incredibles, the first graphic novel in this action-packed, heartfelt, and joyously funny series by Jamar Nicholas reminds readers that when it comes to being a hero, you just need to believe in yourself.

News From the Nurse

Dear Doyle Families,

Cold and flu season is upon us. There are things we can do to help prevent the spread of illness.

Wash hands

Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth

Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing

Avoid close contact with people who are sick

This letter outlines the CB guidelines:

Students should NOT be in school if…

  • Fever over 100 degrees (must be 24 hours fever free without the use of Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen)
  • Diarrhea or vomiting (must be 24 hours free)
  • Rash with fever

The best way to prevent the spread of illness is through proper handwashing. Please encourage your child to wash their hands frequently, especially after using the bathroom and before eating. Encourage coughing into the inside of their elbow to help contain the spread of germs.

Thank you for helping to keep all students healthy by adhering to the guidelines listed above. Should you have any specific questions feel free to reach out to me in the health office.

Support Staff Wanted

Dear Central Bucks families,

This email contains a very important appeal. As we all know, our schools depend on support staff to run smoothly and effectively! The district currently has several open support jobs including teacher’s assistants (EAs), personal care aides, bus drivers and aides, positions in before and after care, food service, lunch and recess aides, and more.

Central Bucks’ supportive and engaged families are among our most valued resources. For that reason, we hope you might consider applying for a role that interests you, or assist us by sharing them with friends, colleagues, and neighbors. These positions offer competitive pay, excellent hours, and great benefits for those eligible.

Visit our website at www.cbsd.org/jobs to view open positions and submit an application.

Thank you for your help!
