A Grateful Heart

A Grateful Heart by Jasmine Mizola, Class of 2024
BEGIN EACH DAY WITH A GRATEFUL HEART
I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you,
praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you,
because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now.
And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more
in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value,
so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ
for the glory and praise of God.
~From Saint Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, Ch. 1:1-5, 9-11
Dear Saint Clare School Families,
Thank you for allowing our faculty and staff to gather to collaborate on our Self Study. I am so proud of them for the energy they brought to the conversation, for the questions and perspectives they exchanged, for digging deeply to get to know and reflect honestly on the effectiveness of our program.
There will be more conversations to look at and analyze data, as well as interviews to conduct to learn and understand the processes and protocols, but the bulk of the work has been completed. After Thanksgiving, we will gather external shareholders to share our findings and invite them to dialog with our leadership team. In the meantime, we will identify some goals to put together an Action Plan to present to the community and then in the spring to the WCEA Accreditation Visiting Committee. Thank you for your participation and involvement in the process thus far through surveys you completed last spring, and by attending A Cup with the Principal, PTG meetings, SAC meetings, and Finance Committee meetings when we shared our progress.
In addition, Mrs. Rizzo has been busy gathering data and coordinating the visit of our Meitler Consultants. They will be on campus on Wednesday, November 2nd to learn more about our school. We have invited twelve members of our community to meet with them as the Strategic Planning Committee. The Committee will help create a road map for our beloved Saint Clare in the years to come.
Good news! Our permitting process for our planned HVAC upgrades for 902 Lexington (Middle School) is progressing. We hope to hear from them soon. At that time, we will meet to plan and schedule the work with our contractor, Thermal Mechanical and TDN Electric. Keep fingers crossed.
Thank you to the Mission and Catholic Identity Committee for spearheading the Sacred Heart Community Services collection this weekend. Thank you to all who participated. We donated three giant bins of gently used items. It’s not too late to continue to upcycle. It’s what we are called to do.
Continue to engage in conversations within your families about the importance of caring for God’s creation. I highly recommend watching “The Letter: Laudato Si’”, a YouTube Original film.
STAYING HEALTHY THROUGH THE COLD AND FLU SEASON
The COVID-19 virus is still present in our community. During this cold and flu season, we ask that you continue the health and safety practices we learned through the pandemic. Remind children to cough into their sleeve, refrain from touching eyes, noses, and mouths, sanitizing and washing their hands often, and keeping their distance from others. These practices, along with wearing face coverings, will help keep us safe from respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses. Continue to screen for illnesses before leaving home, and kindly let us know if your child will not be attending school due to illness. It helps keep us informed for the safety of the community.
PLANNING AHEAD: What to Expect
Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23-28: Although traditionally geared towards living a drug-free life, our Saint Clare School RRW focus is on making healthy choices. Speak with your children about healthy living and making the right choices.
- Jog-a-Thon, Oct. 26:
Students come in Spirit Shirts with PE bottoms - OR - the class theme communicated by the homeroom teacher. Remind students to bring reusable water bottles. Remind students of behavior expectations: listen to ALL adults.
We will begin our walk to Bellomy Field at around 9:30 A.M. Thank you to the Lagergrens for escorting our way there. Students may walk with buddies. Parent volunteers may walk with us. Families may meet us there and cheer us on!
We will walk back to the school at around 11 A.M. Students will be served pizza before being dismissed for the day.
We will dismiss as usual at 12:30.
Halloween, Oct. 31:
Students may come to school in costume. Gory makeup, weapons of any kind, costumes too scary for 4 year-olds and costumes inappropriate for an elementary Catholic school are not allowed. For safety reasons, one-sies are not allowed. Full masks may only be worn during the parade.
The Student Council led costume parade begins after lunch at 1 P.M. on Washington Street. Parents and younger siblings may attend.
Following the parade, the PTG Halloween Committee will stage some Halloween games and activities with treats. Buddies may attend together.
Middle schoolers will have a Halloween party in the Hall.
All Saints Day, November 1:
We will have an ALL SCHOOL MASS at 10:45 A.M. attended by TK-8; TK-2 will be dismissed after the Liturgy of the Word (after Prayer of the Faithful, before Preparation of the Gifts). We will let you know.
There will be no Friday mass during this week (Nov. 4).
All Souls Day/El Dia de los Muertos, November 2
Our Hospitality Committee will set up an altar to honor those who have passed. Students may create “shoebox” ofrendas to honor their dearly departed that we will display these alongside the altar.
Multicultural Dinner, November 11:
There is no school on this day as it is Veterans’ Day. However, you are still highly encouraged to attend the event which begins at 5 P.M. Your family’s entrance is complementary and you will receive tickets to use at the door.
If you would like to bring a dish to share/feature, please let the MC Evening Committee know. Fr. Victor is offering to teach students how to dance the Tinikling as entertainment. More to come on this.
