Behavior Bits
May 2021
Happy Bits-aversary!
It makes total sense and yet is still somewhat unbelievable that it has been a full year of Behavior Bits. Started as a response to the pandemic and all of the stay-at-home things, I hope this resource has beneficial to the folks who get my monthly email blast. I have learned and grown in ways I never imagined through the wild ride that this past year has been. Time is a really weird thing, particularly this last year, so I though we could hone in on scheduling and routines as we prepare to transition into extended school year for some.

Geek Speak: Predictability vs. Consistency
There is a plethora of information on best practices around what aspects of one's schedule/routine are key to facilitating behavior change. While the consistence of one's schedule is important - particularly when initiating a new schedule - the predictability of one's day (with the aid of having a typical schedule) leads to some of the best long term outcomes. Why? Mostly because it lends to the more natural way humans behave: while we would love to always have a consistent schedule, we tend to have things come up which our scheduled need to accommodate for. The ability to be flexible and transition during schedule changes is looked at in more depth in this research article on the subject.
