NO SCHOOL - WINTER BREAK
From the Principal's Desk
From The Principal’s Desk
Dear Glen Grove Families,
December 21st, our last day of school before a long winter break, is quickly approaching. The two-week break is a wonderful opportunity for our students to spend quality time with family and enjoy a rest from the structure of school.
Something important to note is that when we come back in January, the New Year will be bringing us a second set of student assessments. Within the window of January 15 thru 18, our students will be taking the winter Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA), an assessment designed to measure our students’ growth in reading and math. We will use the results of these tests to help us determine if our students are making adequate growth in these areas and formulate a plan to help students who are not on target reach their goals.
As excitement mounts in anticipation of the upcoming holidays and/or winter break, I would like to pause and thank ...
- Mrs. Warren and Mrs. Kabat for helping us ring in the season with the lovely sound of children making music at this past week’s holiday concerts,
- our teachers and Mrs. Kabat for organizing next week’s Student Holiday Sing, a time for our entire school to come together in song,
- our wonderful PTA volunteers for organizing the upcoming classroom parties,
- Mrs. Funke and our Library Council Students for organizing the Glen Grove pajama drive. We far surpassed our goal and collected enough pajamas to keep over 100 at-risk children feeling cozy during the cold winter months ahead,
- our social worker, Mrs. Salkover, and our amazing PTA for organizing the Holiday Helpers Program, and to our entire community for your contributions - your generosity will make the holidays even more special for so many families and make wishes come true for so many children!
In addition to our emphasis on learning, we are truly fortunate to have so many opportunities to come together as a community in celebrations and, even more importantly, in the service of others.
Last but not least, I would like to wish you a peaceful and safe winter break. I hope you are able to spend time with family and friends in the spirit of love that characterizes the holiday season and that the New Year is happy and healthy for you and yours!
Respectfully,
Helena Vena

The Library Council is collecting new, unused pajamas in all sizes from newborn to adult (18 years) for the non-profit organization Pajama Program. They give pajamas to children in need. A collection bin will be in the front of the school from December 3 to December 18. If the students reach their goal of 60 pairs of pajamas, we will have an all school P.J. Outdoor Recess Procedures
Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for outdoor play. In cold weather boots, mittens or gloves, warm jackets, snow pants, hats and scarves are a must. If your child wears boots to school, please remember to send in shoes for them to use during physical education. The wind chill factor must be ten or below or it must be too wet or raining before we cancel outdoor recess. The children are out approximately 20 minutes. Please note that children must wear coats if temperatures are below 32°F.
We are often presented with requests for children to remain indoors at recess, generally because of allergies or as part of a recovery from illness. If it is necessary for your child to be indoors at recess, a note from the doctor will be required. We appreciate your support and cooperation with our recess procedure.
