Students are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to school on October 31st. We ask that all students are able to independently go to the bathroom in their costumes. As a reminder, no masks, weapons, or props are allowed at school.

The Franklin Halloween parade will start at 3:10 pm. The parade route will be shared with the community in the coming weeks.

Franklin Book Fair

The Franklin Book Fair will be open for families to browse and purchase after school on: Tuesday, October 11th, 4:00 - 8:00 pm

Wednesday, October 12th, 2:40 - 4:00 pm

Thursday, October 13th, 4:00 - 8:00 pm

We hope to see you there!

Arrival and Dismissal Parking

To be good neighbors and keep all community members safe, we ask that families do not park in front or block our neighbors' driveways. In addition, we ask that families do not park in the Franklin parking lot. The parking lot is intended for staff and Franklin buses.

We also ask families leaving Franklin at dismissal to remain on the sidewalks and no not walk through the parking lot. This helps ensure student and community safety. Thank you for your cooperation.

Morning Bus

A reminder to all of our morning bus riders to arrive at your stop 10 minutes prior to the designated bus arrival time. Buses may arrive up to 10 minutes early from the designated bus pickup time.

Health Forms Due

This is a reminder that health forms are due to the Franklin Health office by October 15th. Please email Mrs. Karstens at

Physical Exam/vaccine records: Due for students in kindergarten, sixth grade, and new students

Eye exam: Due for students in kindergarten and new to Illinois schools

Changes to Pick-Up or Traveling Parents

If there will be a new adult/guardian picking up your students, please make sure that the person is listed in the Parent Portal as someone with school pickup permission. Please make sure to notify the classroom teacher and office if there are any changes for students if a parent is traveling and the student is staying with someone different.

Visiting Franklin

All visitors to Franklin must have a valid state ID or driver’s license. These will be entered into the Raptor identification system. This process only takes a short time to complete. Once you have clearance, a visitor pass will be printed and attached to a lanyard that you must wear throughout the building. The office will hold your ID until you return to the office and return the lanyard that was given to you. We request that you please be patient with staff as we proceed with this district-mandated safety procedure.

Student-Parent Handbook
Franklin Elementary School, along with all District 64 schools, operates following policies and practices that have been reviewed and implemented by the District 64 Board of Education. Please review the D64 Student-Parent Handbook before the start of the school year.

PTA Updates

We would like to give a big shout-out to Lauren Haugeberg and Idalmy Carrera-Colucci for

planning and organizing such a FUN Back to School Bash!! Everyone had a blast, and the kids are still talking about it :) Thank you to all the volunteers who also helped! The event would

not be successful without your help!

The book fair is coming to Franklin next week!! We are in need of volunteers to help out for

just 1 hour on October 11th and 13th during the hours of 4-8 pm. It’s a great time to pop

over and support our librarians since most parents will be at school for conferences. Thank

you in advance for your support!

Volunteers get 20% off your purchase at the Book Fair!!

The PTA has big plans this year! In order to carry out all the fun events and activities, we

need volunteers. Once parents have registered for the PTA, a list of volunteer opportunities

will be posted on the membership toolkit. Please consider helping chair an event. If volunteers are not found, we will have to cancel the event. Thank you to all that have already signed up to volunteer! We really appreciate it!

The 2 upcoming events that we still need help with are:

Donuts with my VIP on November 4th - We are in need of volunteers to help hand out the delicious donuts to all of our special VIP's and students.

Trunk or Treat on October 29th- We are in need of decorated trunks that will pass out goodies.

Here are the current open volunteer opportunities:

● Raise Craze

● Lunch Math Club

● Paint night

● International Fair

● Night of Stars

● Franklin Mascot

● Muffins with my VIP

● 4th and 5th grade volleyball coaches

We really need your help! There are several open spots for head room parents. This is a Franklin tradition that brings so much fun to the classroom and aside from the kids loving anything planned by a room parent, a room parent helps the class families to show their appreciation for all of the amazing teachers and staff at Franklin! Please consider signing up!!

The following classes still have open spots for head room parents:

Vukmakaj Head Room Parent (Need 2)

Majeski Head Room Parent (Need 2)

Belmonte Head Room Parent (Need 2)

Our Raise Craze fundraiser is underway! This is a unique way for us to raise money for our school while making an impact in our community. During this fundraiser, students ask friends and family for donations via the online Raise Craze platform while paying it forward by serving others. What a great way for us to teacher our students the importance of kindness and gratitude while raising funding for our school! To help make the event more successful, the Raise Craze committee is looking for a few more volunteers to help with the following service events:

Bernie's Book Collection: Help sort books to be donated to Bernie's Book (Weeks of 10/3-10/14).

Chalk the Walk Volunteer: Supervise students after school while spreading kindness via chalk around the school on 10/7.

Trash Pick Up Supervisor: Help with the PTA sponsored trash pick up around Franklin and Northwest Park after school on 10/12.

Uncle Pete Sack Lunch Collector: Arrive before school on 10/13 to help collect sack lunches and sort after.

Head over to to sign up! Thank you to everyone that already volunteered!
