6th Grade Math lab

October

October's Objective

Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1-100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor. For example, express 36 + 8 as 4 (9 + 2)..

 I can identify the factors of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and determine the Greatest Common Multiple.

 I can identify the multiples of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12 and determine the Least Common Multiple.

New tool: Educanon

In the Red Center, students will use Educanon to walk them through some direct instruction at the students pace. Students and teachers already have logins to this program through clever!

To create it, I made the video and uploaded it to youtube. Then, I went to educanon and added stopping points along the way to hold students accountable for actually watching my video!

MTSS Strategies

One MTSS Strategy is "errorless worksheets"... basically giving the children something to check their work by. The answer is not as important as the work- so even if they know the right answer, they have to know how to get there. I have included this strategy by using an Educanon video for a group and QR codes to scan for another.

Read more about this strategy here.

Whole Group Warm up

We will complete this activity in groups. Everyone will work together to solve the problems presented through the link. Hot dog and bun cut outs are at the tables to help them visually see what they are doing before being asked to explain with numbers.

Assess for Grouping

Students will take this Assessment in order to be grouped for the next activity.

Differentiated groups

Red Group: 0-3 Correct on Assessment

Students in this group will use an EduCanon Video to walk them through solving problems (accessed via QR code) for LCM and GCF. They will record answers on paper so teacher can check the work.

Green Group: 4-7 Correct on assessment

Students in this group will use this link (accessed via QR code) to answer LCM and GCF word problems. They will show all work on notebook paper. There is a QR code on each slide students can scan with an iPad to check their answer.

Blue Group: 8-10 Correct on assessment

Students will answer this question (accessed via QR code) on whiteboards. Once they have answered all questions attached to the document, they can get an iPad and use Educreations to explain how they solved the problem.

If they finish quickly, they can do question 2 OR they can do a riddle extension.

Extensions

I have created a playlist of games in "Power my Learning" to reinforce the concepts of GCF and LCM. Students will join the 6th Grade Math lab class in Power my learning using the code: 292059
