Mason Moose Minutes February 11
Teamwork it is! One Mason, One Family, One Team!
Message from the Principal
Dearest Mason Families,
Happy Friday and congratulations on completing the first 100 days of school! Today was a special day at Mason watching so many of our students be extremely excited about participating in the many 100 days of school celebrations! Seeing the creativity displayed and sharing in laughter was inspiring! Students took pride in their learning, sharing their 100th day of school projects, singing their 100th day of school song, counting by 10s to make their 100th day of school necklace and so much more!
We look forward to Monday with the Valentines Day parties that teachers are planning with the students! Please do refer to each teacher's newsletter for more details! Our second grade classes also have a special celebration on Wednesday, 2/16 where they are celebrating their 102 day of school! This will include students reading for 100 minutes!
I would like to take this opportunity to remind all families that our next PTO meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. Thank you to all of our PTO members for all of your support and for truly having such a great impact on making this a successful year!
I hope you all enjoy this weekend and enjoy the super bowl! As always....Teamwork it is! Together we learn, together we lift, and together we lead! If you need anything, please feel free to contact me via email at Hassana@gpschools.org or (313) 432-4404.

Please complete the form by the end of day on Tuesday, February 8. Only one form needs to be submitted per family.

Smencil Sale to Save the Manatee's
Ms. Nurse’s 4th grade class is selling Smencils to raise money for the Florida manatees in crisis. Sadly, over 1,000 manatees died last year due to starvation. This tragedy is still happening as manatees struggle to find food. Unfortunately, their local sea grass that grows in the waters of Florida has been taken over by algae due to fertilizers and run-off. This prevents their only food source from growing. The fourth grade class has already adopted 4 manatees in Florida and is trying to raise more funding to help conservation efforts in Florida and prevent these gentle giants from becoming extinct. We will be holding Smencil sales, $1.00 per pencil starting on Monday, Feb. 14th and all of the proceeds will go to the Save a Manatee organization.
Thank you for your support!

Volunteers
We love our volunteers! If you are interested in coming to Mason and volunteering, please reach out to the main office!
An IChat needs to be filled out and processed 24hrs prior to volunteering at school. If one is needed, we can send one home with your student or you can pick one up from the office.
To all of our dear parents who have been joining us, know that YOU and your time is truly appreciated! Your presence is making a difference and your involvement is so valuable!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Cindy Lyon in the main office at 313-432-4411.
Morning Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
* Students should not be playing at the playground in the morning or on the blacktop. Please kindly remind your student.
* Please DO NOT PARK, nor double park on Charlevoix Rd as this is a drop off area during morning arrival and dismissal times. We want to be proactive about this so that parents are not ticketed for parking there, and students are safe to be dropped off.
* Additionally, during morning arrival, let us try to park in the parking spots which tend to be available if you intend to walk your child to the blacktop, and please DO NOT PARK in the drop off circle so that it indeed is a drop off circle for all students to be dropped off safely.
Winter Playground Procedures/Rules
Snow is here!!! Please remember our students do go outside twice a day for recess. It is important that they are dressed appropriately, hat, gloves, coat, snow pants and boots. Kindly know that in order for students to play on the playground/woodchips/field they need to HAVE snow pants and boots on. If they do not have boots or snow pants on, they will have to stay on the blacktop. Please find these Winter Playground Procedures/Rules to review with your student at home.
If you are in need of a winter jacket and need some support, please contact the main office as we do have some winter jackets to share with students in need.
