Student Opportunities
@ the EG Library: Think, Create, Share, and Grow
Student Library Volunteers (SLV)
Our library can be a busy place! Some of our best helpers are our very own students, many of whom have been asking to come and help. We could use it! Our library is currently taking student library volunteers to come in the morning at 8:05 a.m. to help in the library. We will take 5 students a quarter to help. If a student is interested, fill out a Student Library Volunteer Interest Form.
Award Readers (AR)
The Missouri Association of School Librarians (MASL) each year picks out some of the best, newest books out there for kids to enjoy and creates an award nominees list based on the age of students and encourages students to read them. The Mark Twain Award Nominee List is for students in Grades 4-6 and the Truman Award Nominee List is for students in Grades 6-8. We have multiple copies of each book for checkout and the public library also carries them. Each student that reads at least 4 of the nominees will earn a free poster, a coupon good for 2 extra book checkouts, and the opportunity to participate in a voting party. Students simply need to complete an Award Reader Form once they meet the reading requirements.
Knightly Makers (KM)
Our library will be starting a makerspace program in late October. When students come to the library there will be mini workshops and challenges for students to pick to participate in. We could currently use duct tape(especially colorful styles) and t-shirts for our first couple of mini workshops. If you have any to donate, please send with your child to the library. We would really appreciate it! Make sure to follow EGReaders on Twitter to see the latest happenings.
Secret Society of Readers (SSR)
Readers unite! Here at EG I am starting a club that encourages the love of reading called the Secret Society of Readers. It allows students to previews books before we purchase them, recommend books to others, get an opportunity to read with your friends, and just promote the love of reading at EG. The SSR will meet the first and third Tuesday of every month from 8-8:30. If interested in being part of the Secret Society of Readers, complete a SSR interest Form.
