Remote Planning Day
On November 2, Antioch CCSD 34 will take its third of five Remote Learning Planning Days. On this day, staff will be developing, collaborating, and planning; therefore, there will be no new work assigned to students. Families and students may take the day to complete outstanding assignments, review previous activities, or unplug from the screen for the day. The timing of this day is in conjunction with the conclusion of the first trimester and is an opportunity for our team to reflect, prepare, and transition to the next trimester. Our staff will be meeting in teams, completing report cards, preparing for conferences, participating in professional development, and planning for continued instruction. Important note: Tuesday, November 3 is also a state-wide non-attendance day due to Election Day.
As a reminder, trimester 1 ends on Friday, October 30th and trimester 2 classes start Monday, November 2nd (classes officially start November 4th).
Message from Dr. Hubbard regarding remote learning on October 26, 2020.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Joe Koeune

PLTW: Medical Detective - Mrs. Guanci's Class
Students in PLTW Medical Detectives in 7th grade are studying the Central Nervous system and how the brain works. They learned how neurons work in the brain. Neurons are the cells responsible for receiving sensory input, for sending motor commands to our muscles, and for transforming and relaying the electrical signals at every step in between. After students learned about neurons, they made a model of the neuron.

Virtual Veteran's Day Reception
Each year, Antioch Upper Grade School hosts a reception where we honor the Veterans of our student and staff families. This year, we are not able to be together, but we are no less grateful for their service. So we are going to do our best to create a virtual way of sharing our thanks to our Veterans for their service. Please provide us with information below if you know of a Veteran that we can celebrate. If you have more than one Veteran, please fill out this form for each one. The deadline is NOVEMBER 1. If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Strathman at kstrathman@antioch34.com.

Handbook Update
Respiratory Medications in School During Pandemic
The current guidelines for schools advise the use of spacers with inhalers and to avoid the use of nebulized medications. Additionally, students who are self-carrying their inhalers will need to go to the health office to use their inhaler in order to prevent the potential spread of infectious disease. In an emergency situation students are encouraged to use their self-carry inhaler and then report to the nurses office. Please see our Use of Respiratory Medications During Pandemic guidance for additional details. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact your school’s health office.
Submit your child's medical records
This year, District 34 is requiring that the State of Illinois Certificate of Child Health Examination and all Immunizations required by the State of Illinois must be received before October 15th in order for your student to avoid exclusion. This paperwork is required for all sixth grade and new students to the district. Students will not be allowed in the building if their health files are not updated.
Note: Scheduled medical appointments are NOT acceptable in lieu of the required physical examination documentation.
Please contact your child’s school health office with any questions at 847-838-8301.
