END OF YEAR ACTIVITIES - HOW DO THESE LOOK IN A COVID ALERT LEVEL 2 ENVIRONMENT AT STANLEY AVENUE SCHOOL

We want to communicate with you about how our End of Year activities will look during Alert Level 2 COVID restrictions for our school. We have taken advice and guidance from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health when making these decisions:

If COVID levels change and we have to modify the organisation of these events, we will be in communication with you.

YEAR 8 GRADUATION - Thursday 9th December @ 6.30 pm

(Year 8 students, Year 8 parents, Staff)

Our Year 8 Graduation will take part with our Year 8 students, parents and staff in the Recreation Centre. Due to Covid restrictions, the Year 7 students will be unable to attend but will get their turn next year, hopefully in our traditional format. (Social distancing and contact tracing will apply, and if you have cold or flu symptoms then please stay home). Please keep an eye out for more information in the coming weeks about Graduation.

WHOLE SCHOOL PRIZEGIVING - MONDAY 13th December @ 9.30 am

(Staff & Students Only)

We will be hosting our 2021 Whole School Prizegiving outside the Rec Centre, in order for the whole school to attend. This is a great chance to celebrate the year with all of our students and staff. Combined with Prizegiving will be the Year 8 Leaving Ceremony as well as special Year 7 awards. Unfortunately, we will not be able to have parents and whānau

in attendance due to COVID Alert Level 2 restrictions. However, we will be working to live-stream and record this event.

WHOLE SCHOOL FUNDAY- TUESDAY 14th December

(Staff and Students Only)

Our School Funday will replace the traditional Morrinsville Pools trip due to the fact we are only allowed to take a group of 100 to the pools. During the onsite Funday, students will take part in a tabloid/ waka competition on the backfield and swimming pool area. We will send out more information about this in the coming weeks.

HELPER DAY- TUESDAY 7th December

(Rainbows End Day Cancelled)

Due to covid restrictions, Rainbows End have had to cancel this day. We are currently looking into local options to reward our Year 7 and 8 helpers for the wide range of responsibilities they carry out across the school. We will have more specific detail in the coming week's newsletters.

A & P Art and Crafts

On Saturday many of our students had entries into the Art and Craft section of the A and P show for 2021. As with many other events, the show day was cancelled until next year, but the Home section soldiered on and held their event and judging in the Silver Ferns Event Centre. We had lots of amazing entries ranging from Sketching, Rural New Zealand Posters, and decorated spoons.

Congratulaions to the following winners:

Rhythm Baker, Maddi Kopke, Joshua Mouroa, Quayde Cannons, Noah Whittle, Tyela Van Kuijk

Amilya Handley,Jayden Stockley, Emmie Smith, Lachlan Watts, Kayla Lockie, Alayiah McLaren

Christiaan Kuhn, and Malcolm Barrow.

Well done to you all. Prizes have been given out this week.

We look forward to a bigger and better A & P show in 2022.

Inaugural Croquet Tournament

On Thursday, 12 students from Ruru went to the domain with Mr and Mrs Meyler to compete in the inaugural Te Aroha Schools Croquet Tournament hosted by the Te Aroha Croquet Club (On the domain since 1885). This was a Team tournament played in such amazing spirit alongside Te Aroha Primary and St Josephs. Pairs competed under the watchful eye of the clubs' members in what can only be described as a picturesque setting. Congratulations to St Joseph's who came away with the win on the day. Well done to all our croquet team members: Maddie Scott, Casey Masters, Chloe Forsman, Imogen Clewlow, Mike Warburton, Reeve Grant, Connor Anderson, Bailey Grant, Talia Coombe, Arden Sutherland, Ayden Kumar and Rueben Albert.

Big Thankyou to Di and Al Meyler and the wonderful club members at the Te Aroha Croquet Club.

Room 10 Celebrating Summer!

Have a look at what the youngest students of Stanley Ave have been up to in Room 10. There are gorgeous sunflowers and writing on the wall thanks to Mrs Preston and Mrs Finucane has been tending the sunflower plants being grown in the classroom. Over the last 2 weeks they have been very busy Bees, making bees with all of our lovely Learner assistants, and then on Thursday they showed their ability to work like bees, as they created bees on honeycomb with the lovely Mrs Roskam. What a talented bunch we have in Room 10. Looking forward to a wonderful summer together.

Staff vs Students Bowls 2021

The Students have done it again!!!

Last bowl of the last end of the last game for 2021...and Taranpreet bowled an absolute pearler to take the 3 shots lead away from the staff and win the game by 3!!!!

As mentioned in last week's newsletter Mr Lowe was referee for the day for the last time, so I suppose it was only fitting that the students he has coached along the way take the win, and will hold the trophy for 2021/22. Well done to Jake Andersen, Rueben Albert, Talia Coombe and Taranpreet Singh-Mahal. This team would have competed at Winter Olympics and the Annual District School Bowls tournament at St Joseph's this year as well, had it not been for Covid restrictions, so this is their first taste of competition for 2021. A sad day for Mrs Hayes...but there is always next year!

Check out the photos of the winning team and their trophy.

Junior golf

Come along and enjoy golf at the Te Aroha Golf Club. Wednesdays 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

All welcome.

You do not have to bring anything other than a willingness to have a go. Clubs supplied.
