Jottings from Mid April

Recently in class...

Math: We finished up working on area and perimeter and moved on to symmetry. Next week we will be learning about order of operations and getting ready for the math MCA tests.

Reading: We finished up our unit on figurative language by creating comics, iMovies, tongue twisters, pic collages, and more to show our understanding of this topic. We also took our reading MCA tests this past week. You will get those results at the end of the summer.

Grammar: We have been learning about verbs and verb tenses: past, present, and future.

Over the next two weeks, your student will be reading a biography on a historical figure and completing three projects to showcase what they have learned. This project will be completed in class. As part of their final grade, each student will be required to present their projects dressed as their biography subject. I am not expecting anyone to go out of their way and buy anything for this project. I want students to try to use what they have at home and their creativity. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please contact me.

*The date for our biography presentations has not been set yet. I will send out a letter stating the date once that has been decided.

MCA Math testing

We begin testing math MCA's starting on Monday, April 20th. Your child will be testing with their math class. Look at the schedule below to determine when your child will test.

Schmidtbauer: April 21st and TBD

Warpula: April 27th and April 28th

Sorenson: April 29th and April 30th

Johnson: May 1st and May 4th

Swenson: May 5th and May 6th

If you know that your child will be gone on the day they are suppose to test with their class, please let me know so we can arrange for them to take their test at a different time. If you have any questions, please let me know.

We are trying a new journaling app called Seesaw. This app allows students to post what they are learning, give reminders, etc., for their parents to view, like, or comment on. (it has a similar feel to Instagram). If you haven't signed up, follow the directions below. I encourage you to give the info to other family members (like grandma and grandpa) as well, as I'm sure they would enjoy seeing what your child is doing in school. If you decide to do this, please let me know who they are, so I know that it is okay to give access to them. If you have any questions, please me know.

  1. Click on the link to create an account.
  2. Download the app Seesaw Parent Access on any mobile device (or continue to use the link above on a computer)
  3. Once downloaded on your device, login using the information you signed up with.
  4. Once you are logged in, you will see their journal. Enjoy!

*If you still have the sheet of paper that I sent home a few weeks ago, you can bypass the website by simply scanning the QR code.
