An Update on Our Schoology Gradebook
Dear WMS Parents and Guardians:
As you get ready to look at grades, we encourage you to use Schoology as your child’s gradebook. Last week, you should have received a second letter from the District with Schoology login information as well as access codes for your student(s). Please take time to login to Schoology and access the gradebook. If you need assistance, please visit our District Instructional Tech for Families website, particularly the Schoology support page.
Schoology is going to be your primary platform to review grades and assignments for your child. It is also used for announcements from teachers and our Wredling campus. It is your one-stop shop for important learning information.
While we have had some glitches with Schoology this year, we continue to grow our capacity and make improvements as we go. Please understand we are doing our best to solve issues quickly. The best recommendation I can make is to only look at the Schoology gradebook until the quarter ends. We will then send you a message to look at Home Access Center for the final grade for the quarter. And if you do see errors or have questions, please contact the teacher.
We appreciate your flexibility and grace as we implement a new learning platform this year.

Halloween Costumes
This year at WMS we are going to allow costumes on Halloween (Monday, October 31) because this falls on a school attendance day. Here are our guidelines:
If you are going to wear a costume, I also expect that you have come to school ready to learn on Halloween.
All costuming must happen at home. That includes any hair or make-up.
With make-up, we need to be able to know who you are-no full face make-up.
The costume must be school appropriate.
For students, there are no masks or inflatable costumes allowed.
There can be nothing that you carry around that is extra. (ie. props, fake weapons, scythes, clubs, dolls, etc.)
Teachers are expected to teach that day, though they may have Halloween themed lessons.
There will be no Halloween parties. Or candy. Or other treats. Because you will get enough junk at night if you trick or treat.
After Halloween, you can only bring a couple of pieces of candy per day. If you bring more, I will get it and I will eat it. And I don't need any more candy. And throw away your wrappers in the garbage, please.
COMFIES DAY November 1st - dress comfortably, in pajamas or lounge wear, but still school appropriate!
Best-
Mr. Loversky
Safety Protocols at Wredling
Wredling is lucky to have some great security features such as a “buzzer” system and vestibule area before fully entering the school. With that said office staff will be asking you a few questions before you are “buzzed” in to gain entry to the vestibule area:
What is your name and the name of your student?
State the reason why you are at WMS.
A sign will soon be posted by the buzzer that will include the following instructions:
Please face the camera and push the button - wait for us to answer
State your name and the name of your student
State the reason for your visit to WMS.
Pull the door when a click sound occurs.
Once inside the vestibule, you will be asked for your ID if you are gaining entry into the school and also to pick up your student. Your ID will be run through the Raptor system. We utilize this safety system for parents picking up their students, or those coming into the school. A visitor pass will be provided to all adults entering the building.
Ideally, if you know in advance you will need to pick up your student early, plan to send them to the office with a note in the morning. Include your pickup time and reason they are leaving. We will give them a pass for 5 minutes prior to your planned pickup time. Our hope is to have them here waiting in the office when you come in to sign them out.
Please be patient when picking up your student as there are many times the office is quite busy. It takes some time for students to be called out of class, go to their locker and walk to the office. WMS is a big building.
Patriot's Pen
Each year, nearly 68,800 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest for a chance to win their share of more than $1.4 million in state and national awards. Each first place state winner shares in a national prize and receives a minimum of $500. The national first place winner wins $5,000!
The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief.
All entries may be submitted to your child’s social studies teacher.
Please see attached Rules and Eligibility and Patriot’s Pen Entry Form and Rules
Physical Education Reminder
Cooler weather is beginning to creep in. Please be aware that our PE classes will use outdoor instructional space if the weather permits and the temperature is 40 degrees or above. Your student will want to have sweatpants and a sweatshirt at school to be worn during their PE class. We encourage them to wear the extra layer on the colder days ahead.
We Want Your Photos! 📸
If you have pictures from yesterday’s WMS Color Run, please submit them to Mr. Massie (timothy.massie@d303.org), our WMS Yearbook Advisor. He will be working with our Yearbook Club participants to choose some for publication. Thank you!
Service Learning Classes Seeking Donations
The 6th-grade Service Learning classes will be doing fundraising over the coming weeks. The causes they have chosen include the National Cancer Society, CaringBridge, and Anderson Animal Shelter. If you would like to make a contribution, donations can be made during our 6th-grade lunches. You may also drop off an envelope containing your donation at our main office. Please mark donations “care of Chrissy McPeak, WMS Service Learning Teacher” and include the name of the charity you wish to support. Thanks so much!
6th Grade Social
WMS Student Council provides a free after school grade-level social for our students each year. During the social, the students have an opportunity to enjoy activities in our gyms, ( basketball, gaga ball, etc.) watch a movie, or hang out with other students in the cafeteria and enjoy a snack. The 6th grade social will be Friday, October 28th from 3:40-5:40. Parents must pick up their children promptly at 5:40.
If you would like to drop off a donation of small snacks for our students, you can leave them with the office staff.

Suessical Jr!
Come immerse yourself in the wonderful, wacky world of Dr. Seuss! “Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!” – Music Theatre International
