Community Engagement: Spotlight on Hunger and Housing!

To help our students prepare to declare a Service Track, we're highlighting a specific track each week! This week, we're highlighting Hunger and Housing. According to the Center for Community Engagement (CCE), this Service Track works to help combat local poverty by serving with community partners that provide relief, rehabilitation, and development to individuals and families experiencing these difficulties.

One Community Partner within this Service Track is Habitat for Humanity. Habitat is a nonprofit organization that brings people together to build homes and hope for low-income families. The Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg has an event coming up on September 19th, from 8:30am - 4:00pm.

This is a very important event, because it helps one of our own. Habitat needs volunteers to help build a home right behind CNU on Shoe Lane for one of our campus Groundskeepers, who has worked for CNU since 2005! Habitat needs 100 volunteers to frame the structure of the home in one day, and if you have construction experience, you could even be a team leader. If you're interested, see our Fall 2015 Engagement Opportunities for more information!

As always, if you know of an opportunity for service that you would like us to advertise in the Weekly emails, please fill out the Service Submission Form!
