From the Principal Tony White.....

Earlier this afternoon, we had our second lockdown drill of the school year. We're required by the Regional Office of Education to hold only one; however, I like to do two a year to keep everyone sharp in the event we ever need to lock the building down. I wish that we lived in a world where this wasn't necessary, but until that happens, we will continue to do all we can to keep our Eagles and staff safe in every way. Perhaps the best thing Norton Creek can do to make that dream a reality is to continue our role in developing the future one Eagle at a time.

I hope you have a fantastic spring break making memories with your favorite people. Time flies when we're having fun, and there's nothing we can do to slow the sands of time. All we can do is be present in every moment and enjoy. I had a fifth grader tell me the other day: Life isn't meant to be lived, it's meant to be enjoyed. Pretty profound stuff, and that's my wish for you this spring break (and everyday)! Enjoy the break!

Equity Audit Parent Focus Groups

As part of the district’s equity audit, parent 1 hour focus groups will be held across the district via Zoom during the month of April to give families an opportunity to share their thoughts on our district’s strengths, areas of need, and long-term opportunities for providing the best educational experience for all students. Focus groups will be constructed and led by our partners in the equity audit process- the Consortium for Educational Change (CEC). There will be morning and evening focus groups available for parents. Every school’s goal is to have 15 families agree to participate in a focus group. During the week of March 21st, a member of our school staff will begin calling parents from a document with families’ names listed in random order to invite prospective participants to be part of a focus group. All parents are welcome to email your own written responses to the focus group questions to CEC should you not be selected to participate in a focus group but desire to share your opinions (A list of the focus group questions and a place for submitting your answers to them will be posted on the district website beginning April 4th). We thank you for your commitment to equity in education, and we are excited about this next step in gathering the voices of our district so that we can create a comprehensive plan to move forward. If you have any questions regarding the focus group process, please contact our Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Dr. Tracy Taylor, at

Can you help the Nurses Office?

We are in need of gently used pants and/or shirts in the office. Students occasionally need a change of clothing during the school day, and we use these clothes for that purpose.

We can use boys and girls pants ( sweat pants, leggings etc.)

If you are able to donate some gently used clothing, please send them to the office.

Hearing/Vision Screenings

Each year students receiving special education, those new to the State of Illinois schools, and those in mandated grades have vision and hearing screening performed by our vision and hearing screener or a Certified School Nurse. Norton Creek is scheduled for this routine screening on Tuesday April 5th and may be done as needed or as is feasible the rest of the school year. Screening requires the screener to put headphones on your child for hearing screening and may involve your child putting their head into a vision screening machine if a touchless vision camera is not available. Cleaning of equipment will take place and social distancing. In light of this if you DO NOT want your child screened, email Brittany Jensen Hearing screening is mandated for elementary students in kindergarten, first, second and third grades. Vision is mandated for kindergarten and second grade for those who do not have a current vision exam.
