Remote Learning Plan for ORHS - Updated 8.4
Good afternoon,
School starts next Wednesday, August 12. Here is an update for this week:
1. We will release schedules Wednesday morning via Student Access and Parent Access. Keep in mind that we are still balancing classes and schedules may change slightly between now and August 12.
Contact your counselor if there is a hole in your schedule or if you have a class on your schedule for which you have already received credit.
2. Technology pick up will begin on Thursday, 8/6 from 7am-1pm for 10-12 graders. Please drive to the front of Senior Campus to pick up technology. 9th Graders will pick up technology on the 9th Grade Campus.
Thursday 8/6 - 7am-1pm
Friday 8/7 - 7am - 1pm
Monday 8/10 - 1pm - 5pm

Step 1. Go to conroeisd.net
Step 2. Click on Conroe ISD SSO at the top of the webpage
Step 3. Log into the SSO by using the student's username and password
Step 4: Once in the SSO, click on Google Drive and it will open
Step 5: Go to the very top of your screen and open an additional window by clicking the "+"
Step 6: Open the email account you received the school newsletter and click on the link for Technology registration.
Step 7: Fill out the form to register for needed technology.

Another Update Coming Friday
Attendance and Grades During Remote Learning
While we are in 100% remote learning, we will take attendance through engagement checks. This means that on a Red Day - a student will be considered present if they engage with their material or teacher for all scheduled classes for 1, 3, 5, and 7th periods.
This can most effectively be done by logging into Canvas or emailing the instructor. An assignment being completed is not necessary for a student to be considered present. The student must engage by 11:59 on the day of the class to be considered present for that day.
Teachers will update attendance the following school day for a class. Therefore, If I was a junior that had Physics 4th period and I logged onto Canvas and accessed the notes and practice questions for my physics class at 10:00 pm - the teacher would mark me present when they get to school the next day.
This is essentially how attendance will work for remote learning throughout the year. When we return to school with in person instruction, remote learners will follow the same attendance policy. In person learners will follow the in person attendance policies - however, they will still be able to be considered present if they are not at school and engage in material remotely.
Grades and Assignments. Grades will be taken on at a minimum of nine (9) daily grades (HW, Quizzes, in class assignments) and three (3) major grades (Tests, Projects, Papers) per nine weeks. This will be the case for both in person and remote learning. Students will have similar if not the same assignments both remotely and in person.
Tests will be given in Canvas during remote instruction and papers and projects may be turned in through Canvas as well. At times, utilizing Google Drive through the SSO may be expected of a student.
There are certain classes (Welding, Engineering Design, etc.) where either simple web-browser (Chromebooks) or virtual learning may make it difficult to complete the course (for example, most students do not have welding equipment at home - and for those who do the instructor cannot monitor the safety of the student in a remote setting).
During district mandated remote learning (through September 4, 2020) all courses will be able to be completed in a remote environment. However, when in person learning resumes certain courses may need to be taken at school in order for the student to get credit for the course.
The district is currently working with high schools to finalize those courses and that list will be available soon. When we have a final list - counselors will contact those who have signed up for remote learning AND are in a course that must meet in person to see what the next steps will be for that student.
There will be more guidance and clarity to attendance and grading guidelines as we progress toward August 12, 2020.

Dress Code for Next Year
We have decided that our dress code policy was slightly antiquated and we are updating it for the next school year.
The dress code is considered gender-neutral, meaning young men and young women will be held to the same standards of dress.
The main focus is keeping the body clothed from armpit to armpit and down through the middle of the thigh. Undergarments should be covered and nothing should be worn on the head unless there is an administrative exception given to an individual student for medical or religious reasons.

A vehicle application must be completely filled out by eligible students. An application will not be considered unless it is complete and all information is provided. All student fees and fines must be cleared as well as any school miscellaneous items checked back in before a parking space is issued.

PASSWORD: Stu + the student’s 6 digit School ID number
You will need to complete the course, quiz, and vehicle information. The price for a parking space is $75.
Please pay for the parking space through the school webstore (school cash online).
Students who have registered for parking will NOT lose their parking space which will be preassigned during the remote instruction period.
