Principal's Corner
“One of the worst days in America’s history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans’ history. We’ll always honor the heroes of 9/11.” -former President George W. Bush
Dear Lake Forest Community High School Family,
A Friday after our first in-person Open House in what feels like a lifetime of virtual Open Houses. It was so great seeing our Lake Forest High School families in our hallways rushing to find classrooms; seeing our parent organizations supporting and championing our school; and laughing with so many of our student leaders as they helped our parents find their way! And, I would be remiss if I didn’t give a huge shout out to our student performers and many support staff members who brought so much of their talent to making our time together even more special–It was awesome to be together again!
For those who have missed it, we created this one page document for our students. Yes, I know it is a sheet, but I am sticking with the term one pager because sometimes I am stubborn like that! Final exams, the Blue/Gold calendar, quarter-end dates, attendance rules, are included as well as a link and QR Code to our Confidential Reporting Tool. We are constantly reminding our students that if they see something, say something–please help us spread this message loudly and clearly.
Part of living in a community is that we get to celebrate other organizations; with that, we are proud to feature the Annual Spirit of 67 Home and Garden Tour on September 29th in this week’s Fan(sc)out. We welcome other charitable organizations who support students in the communities of Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, and Knollwood to send us information, as well.
As we prepare for our Homecoming week, there are so many activities planned. Our 3rd Annual Scout All Out 5K has been postponed, so we will kick-off the fun with window painting on Sunday! Two Senior Nights are in the queue, with Boys and Girls Golf, but so many of our teams are hosting Homecoming games and matches. We will have a Pep Rally on Friday and our Homecoming Dance on the front lawn—Everything SCOUTS is certainly in the air!
Oh, and when your Scout heads to school in pajamas on Monday, don’t worry. It’s a thing.
Hope to see you soon!
Erin

Homecoming Spirit Week
SADDLE UP FOR HOMECOMING 2022!
The LFHS Student Council is excited to host the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 17, from 7:00-9:30pm under the stars on the LFHS front lawn!
There will be giant lawn games, plenty of picture areas, and other fun surprises including food trucks which will be available to purchase food!
Tickets are $20 each and must be purchased online in advance by September 16 at 1:00pm. Students are encouraged to attend in groups, couples, or individually.
While the theme of Homecoming is WESTERN, the dance is semi-formal with most students electing to wear fun dresses, khakis, and button-downs. You may or may not choose to add a Western flair! There is no official dress code - we just want you to join us!
Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures Reminder
Arrival: Student Drop-Off Procedures
All vehicles dropping off students should enter from N. McKinley Rd. and proceed toward the drop-off lanes. Please pull forward as far as possible to allow room for other vehicles. Students should exit their vehicles and enter the building through the Commons. No student drop off is permitted in the Rear Lot except when exiting from buses.
Dismissal: Student Pick-Up Procedures (NEW CHANGES)
In an attempt to expedite pick-up and alleviate traffic congestion, we will be adding an additional pick-up lane in the front of the school. As vehicles enter from N. McKinley Rd., they should proceed to the pick-up area. Beginning Monday, September 12, there will be two pick-up lanes and two thru-lanes on either side of the median. Vehicles should pick one of the two pick-up lanes, pull forward as far as possible and, once the student is in the vehicle, move into the thru-lane to exit the driveway.
As a reminder, students should never be picked up from the staff or student parking lots.
Dismissal: Bus Pick-Up Procedures (NEW CHANGES)
In order to open up an additional pick up lane, buses will not enter the driveway on the east side of the median until 3:30pm. Bus riders should wait in the Commons until the buses arrive on campus. When they pull up next to the building, students can exit the school and proceed to their assigned bus. This will not affect routes or timing of stops, as the buses do not leave campus until 3:33 pm.
A detailed map is below for your reference. Please remember to always drive slowly on and around campus, keeping an eye open for pedestrians at all times. The safety of our school community is our priority.
Union Pacific Railroad Crossing Repairs
This month, Union Pacific Freight will be repairing their railroad crossings at both Westleigh Road and Old Elm Road (just west of Route 41).
No vehicles will be able to cross the railroad tracks while repairs are being made.
Union Pacific will work on one crossing at a time, the current schedule is:
- Westleigh Road closure is scheduled for Monday, September 12 at 9am through Friday, September 16 at 5pm.
- Old Elm Road closure is scheduled for Monday, September 19 at 9am through Friday, September 23 at 5pm.
As Union Pacific works on the crossing at Old Elm Road, all vehicles will be detoured to Westleigh Road. When they are working on the crossing at Westleigh Road, all vehicles will be detoured to Townline Road. Detour signs will be posted.
While the railroad roadway crossings are Union Pacific’s jurisdiction, the City is helping get the word out about the road closures to our residents and community stakeholders.
