Updates from our Principal
Happy Friday Firebird Nation!
CMAS testing done! Phew! Thank you to all students and staff for all your hard work and dedication throughout the last 4 weeks. I am so proud of all our students. Great job to all!
Unfortunately, our weather has not been incredibly cooperative this week. Although very typical spring Colorado weather, the wind, rain, snow, etc. has put a hamper on a variety of activities this week. Soccer and softball had to move some games around. Our Kona Ice day had to be rescheduled to Monday, May 1st . But at Falcon Middle School, we do not let anything get us down. We will continue to move forward!
As of today, we have four weeks left of this school year. It is so incredibly hard to believe. A few reminders as we move into May. Students really need to stay on top of all assignments and grades. Don’t give up! The next four weeks are incredibly important for students to finish strong.
Over the past week, I have seen a number of students not thinking before they act and making poor choices. This past week grade level admin and I have met with both 7th and 8th grade students to stress the expectation of appropriate behavior. I will be scheduling a time with our 6th grade AP to meet with 6th graders as well. Any student(s) who engage in physical altercations or instigate fights on campus will definitely lead to a variety of consequences ranging from suspensions, behavior contracts, as well as not being allowed to participate in 8th grade promotion. Please remind students to pause and slow down. We want all Firebirds to have an amazing final four weeks of school.
Secondly, please remind students to follow the dress code. Although hard to believe at this moment, the weather will warm up. Students are often tempted to push the envelope in regard to appropriate dress. Again, please refer to the dress code diagram below to ensure students are maintaining appropriate school dress.
Falcon middle school has a number of exciting events coming up in the next couple of weeks. This coming week a number of home and away sporting events will take place. On May 4th, 8th grade students will travel to Falcon High School to visit. Both 8th grade teams sent a permission slip form. Even if your student will not be attending FHS next year, this is a fun opportunity for your student to explore the offerings at FHS. On that same day, 5th grade elementary students from across the Falcon Zone will travel to Falcon Middle School. This will be the first time prior to Covid students will have this opportunity. I look forward to welcoming all 5th graders!!
Finally, teacher appreciation week is May 8th through May 12th. We have an exciting week planned to celebrate all our teachers and their dedication to all our students.
Have a great weekend!

Principal

The 6th grade Red Team participated in a 2 day cross-curricular lesson this week. In their Science learning plan, they were practicing forces and measurement and in their Social Studies learning plan they learned about historical perspectives through the use of inventions. The Western Hemisphere teacher, Ms. Vari, taught students about the atlatl invention that Paleolithic humans invented to help them throw spears farther. Students (with parent permission) threw spears with and without the atlatl (and also threw a control group of tennis balls) and compared the length of each throw. What a great way to make learning hands-on and fun!

Firebird Nation Campus Expansion
Our teams began working through punch lists today. Portions of the building are in the final completion stage! We have two additional punch list walks coming up before construction finishes up in the next couple of weeks! The sidewalks are being installed along with the permanent fencing around the new areas. The outdoor basketball court is getting installed as well. Painting of the Gym floor is almost finished and the concrete floor throughout the building is getting polished. Everything looks amazing! Our classroom furniture will start arriving in about 3 weeks so that we can fill all of these new classrooms!
