What's your Superpower?
This coming Friday, November 13th, SEM will celebrate Superhero Day where students can dress like their favorite superheroes. I was surrounded by Superheroes this past Saturday at Long Island's first nErD Camp! This was a major literacy event for our area, with educators and authors joining us from other states as well. Reading and writing are superpowers that can make a difference in your life and in the lives of those around you! Lynda Mullaly Hunt, author of the book we've been reading, Fish in a Tree, discussed how she struggled greatly to learn how to read and write until her 6th grade teacher helped her overcome her challenges. Fish in a Tree is her gift to him and features a girl who has dyslexia and the teacher who helps her. Sharing our stories has such power and can help us feel less alone with our problems and worries. Lynda's book is inspiring great conversations in our class and classes around the globe. I can't wait to share my autographed copy with our class!
Tyler and Mrs. Sokolowski at #nerdcampli
Saturday was the first Nerd Camp LI, a literacy event for educators, authors and illustrators. Students and their families were invited for an Author Meet & Greet later in the day. So happy to see Tyler and the Jimenez family there!
Mrs. Sokolowski meets Lynda Mullaly Hunt
Our class has been reading Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt, as part of the Global Read Aloud. It was such a thrill to meet Lynda Mullaly Hunt in person!
Writing Partners at work!
Writing partners helped each other decide on a new lead for their personal narratives.
