7th Grade GSS Weekly Update
Week of 1/27-1/31
Course Overview
Classroom Happenings
Preserving History: Students had only one day to work on this project during class this week. It’s time for them to finalize the product they will make to preserve the history they are learning. They should create something that will be interesting or fun. I’m including the link to the grown-up’s guide to this project so you can support as they figure out a project that fits their topic, purpose, and skill set. The final project will be due Friday, February 21.
Government: This week we spent a little more time on impeachment and will finish up how and why a president is impeached. Early next week we will combine current events with our knowledge of impeachment to see if we can understand why and how President Trump is being impeached. It’s good practice for the kids to have conversations about politics, and we will reinforce communication strategies to help us stay focused on the topic and respectful of our classmates.
Guest Speaker: We had a guest speaker on Wednesday. Dr. Lauren Arnold is an Epidemiologist (ask the kids what that means!) at St. Louis University and she talked to us about the outbreak of the corona virus in China and how public health organizations help to control the spread of disease in situations like this. We are so grateful for her time and all that we learned from her.
Peer Feedback: Students spent some time this week giving feedback to the students who are taking their National History Day projects to the regional level. It was a good exercise in communicating for a purpose.
Contact: As always, let me know if you have questions about class or concerns I should be aware of. The easiest way to reach me is by email.
