NP³ Elementary 2021-2022
Matey Message Week 19 January 10-14
Broken crayons still color.
Dear Matey Families,
Below are important COVID-19 updates from NP3 Schools.
Please be on the lookout for communication(s) from Natomas Unified School District (NUSD) about NUSD contracted services. This may affect NP3 Schools in the following ways: late buses, differing breakfast/lunch menus, shortages in support staff.
Thank you!
Mrs. Dart
COVID-19 Updates:
This has been an incredibly challenging week for schools in our area, as well as across the country. NP3 has seen a significant number of positive cases on our campuses and among our students, families, and staff. Below is our COVID-19 dashboard, which is also linked on all three NP3 school websites.

While we do not have any verified on-campus transmission this week, the extremely high case rate in our community makes it difficult to determine where transmission is occurring. Most of our positive cases this week were linked to in-home exposures and exposures that occurred over winter break.
This week we were able to contact all families of students who have been identified as close contacts and are committed to following all mitigation measures on campus. As the cases continue to rise, Sacramento County has advised schools to focus their contact tracing on high-risk activities, such as lunch and extra-curricular activities. Our focus is on keeping our classrooms open and safe for students, as well as providing short-term independent study for students impacted by COVID-19. We appreciate your help with this.
Here are some reminders:
Vaccination and Boosters: This week, the CDC authorized Boosters for children ages 12-15, five months after their initial two-dose series. All individuals, ages 5 and older are eligible for vaccination. Please get your child vaccinated and boosted, when eligible. Evidence shows that individuals who have received a booster dose increase their immunity to a level that provides more protection from all circulating COVID-19 variants, including Omicron. CDC and CDPH recommend that all eligible persons receive a booster dose because immunity wanes several months after completion of the initial vaccine series. Individuals who have not received a booster are more likely to become infected and spread the infection to others.
Stay Home: If you have a positive case in the home or your child is symptomatic, please do not send your child to school. Contact the front office and we will reach out with isolation and quarantine guidance. Thank you to the many families who have kept students home this week because of exposure or symptoms.
Masks: Please reiterate the importance of proper masking at school. Masks should always be worn over both the nose and mouth. You may want to consider upgrading your child’s mask to one that is more protective than a cloth mask or wearing a surgical or KN95 mask under the cloth mask. For more information on masks, please see CDPH’s updates.
COVID-19 Home Kits:
The state allocated home kits for K-12 student use last week. We received our allotment, but do not have enough kits for every student on campus. We are distributing the kits to students who have had exposures to COVID-19 and are required to test as part of the quarantine guidance. Unfortunately, we can’t provide kits for family members.

Leader in Me: Think Win-Win
Thinking win-win is the key to working well with others. It is the most effective way of thinking, especially in a family. Families that learn and practice win-win thinking are happier, experience less conflict, and are better able to meet the family challenges that arise.

Girls on the Run is coming to NP3 Elementary!
Girls on the Run is a program that inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through research-based curricula which include dynamic discussions, activities, and running games.
Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-5th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
We are currently entering our fifth GOTR season at NP3, with a FULL team of 20 girls participating in the past!
If you are interested in this program, registration opens on January 24th at www.gotrsac.com (see button below).
For more information, please contact Mrs. Riehl at priehl@natomasunified.org. We hope to run with you soon!
