Big picture

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

This week our 4th grade classes had engineers from Intel come to visit and share about engineers. This event was in celebration of National Engineers's Week.

We had supply pick-up for grades K, 1, 2, 3 and 6. There are still some supplies that need to be picked up. They are outside the school each day from 7:30 - 6:00 pm. Supply pick up for grades 4 and 5 will be on Wednesday, March 3rd. The Right Brain Initiative kits are included in the supplies. These kits have activities that students can do during their off-screen time.

Progress continues on all of our construction projects. The frame for the gym will be going up soon!

Thank you to all of our families who completed the return to school survey! We will be using this information to continue planning for hybrid learning. Here are our dates by grade for hybrid return:

  • Kinder - 2nd Grade, March 29th
  • 3rd - 4th Grade, April 5th
  • 5th - 6th Grade, April 12th

Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to help.

In partnership,

Jennifer Robbins

Kindergarten Registration

Dear Families,

It is the time of year when we begin to identify children who qualify to attend kindergarten in September 2021 In order to attend public school kindergarten in the state of Oregon, children must turn five years on or before September 1st.

On March 1st our on-line registration process opens for the 2020-21 kindergarten enrollments. If you have a child who is eligible for kindergarten in September 2021, to register you will need access to a desktop, laptop or tablet and an email account. Please follow the directions below.

Go to www.hsd.k12.or.us

Click on For Families menu

Click on Enrollment process.

Select Online Registration to create an account and begin enrollment.

If you need help with on-line registration, you can come by the school anytime.

There are two exceptions to on line registration.

If your child has been in Early Intervention

If your child has attended a HSD preschool.

If either of these apply please stop by the office to pick up a registration packet any time after March 1st.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to call the office at 503-844-1300.

If you know of a family who may have a child who should start kindergarten in September 2021, please pass this information along. Please return the bottom portion to let us know about any possible students that will be attending Ladd Acres.

Thank you for your assistance, and we look forward to meeting the graduating class of 2034!

Also, 1st grade – 6th grade families that will be new to Ladd Acres they can also register. Call 503-844-1300 to get that started.

There will be more information on the Kindergarten Orientation coming soon.

Meal Distribution Changes

Meal distribution changes begin Monday, Mar. 1, and will remain in place through Friday, Mar. 19. All walk zone meal deliveries will be made by vans or other designated vehicles, not school buses. School buses will continue to deliver meals outside of walk zones. Many pick-up times will be different, so families are encouraged to review the walk zone and bus delivery stop lists for the schedule in their See hsd.k12.or.us/nutrition for more information. On Mar. 29, meal delivery will cease. Students attending hybrid can pick up meals when they are on campus and students participating in CDL only can request weekly meals.

Parenting Tools Workshop

We are offering a free, on-line parent training and behavior management resource; Paxtools. Paxtools is designed to reduce conflict, help kids manage their own behaviors, and improve relationships, all while building self-regulation skills and improving cooperation.

This evidence-based, trauma-informed training is based on decades of research.

This program comes with a free kit of materials, and the free app, Pax Tools, is a great resource as well.

Our next training is on March 10, 2021 from 5:30-7:30 pm, virtually

Quote from previous participants:

“I've been a mom for 17 years, and have spent that whole time trying to come up with tools like these. Mine are always too complicated and too hard to follow through on, and I would always put all my energy into creating them. The PAX tools are simple enough that I can actually use them, and the presentation and materials made it so I don't have to put much thought or energy into implementation. I also really loved hearing the science behind each tool.”
