CLX Digital Lead Teacher Newsletter
October 2018
Digital Citizenship Week is October 15-19! Schedule a required lesson with me!
Part of our ACS requirement under eRate, is that we provide intentional Internet Safety lessons. I will be teaching two lessons for each class again this year: Internet Safety and Cyberbullying.
To kick off Digital Citizenship Week, I am asking that we schedule Internet Safety lessons during that week. Follow the link to my DLT calendar and look at the week of October 15-19. I have 45 minute appointment slots that YOU can select (Kinder/1st, your lessons are only 30 minutes long, but just select a slot) by clicking on the time. If that week doesn't work, we can schedule for another day. I will need to complete an Internet Safety lesson with your class before the end of October. Check out the video below to learn how to use Google Appointment Slots.
You can teach Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship too! And you can Level Up! while you are at it. Complete a Common Sense Media lesson and receive added CEUs and a digital/printed badge to show you know your stuff! Fill out this form here.
Microsoft Skype-A-Thon, November 13-14, 2018
In October, Microsoft officially announced its Skype-a-Thon! They would like to invite you all to join them on November 13-14 to connect your students with other classrooms to experience a new culture, play Mystery Skype, go on a virtual field trip or invite a guest speaker and help raise awareness of different cultures, values, and perspectives.
With every 400 virtual miles travelled through activities scheduled via the Skype in the Classroom website, Microsoft will provide educational resources for a child in need through our partnership with WE – supporting one of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG#4): Quality Education. We hope you will join us and help us reach our goal of 14 million virtual miles to provide essential educational resources in schools for up to 35,000 children across 9 WE Villages around the world.

Level Up 2.0! Digital Learning Competencies and You!
In order to meet state requirements, I will continue to meet with all certified staff each month to deliver Digital Learning Competencies. As a reminder, if you are in the renewal cycle for 2018, you will be required to have 2 CEUs in the Digital Learning Competencies. The ACS Digital Lead Teacher team have been working together to deliver PD to cover these standards and ensure that teachers receive content they need.
Our topics have been broken down into four topics:
1. Leadership in Digital Learning
2. Digital Citizenship
3. Digital Content and Instruction
4. Data and Assessment
We will continue to award badges and CEUs to certified staff that take their learning beyond the conference room! You can refer to the CLX PD Calendar to see when these topics will be covered.
Our first session will be on Thursday, September 20th on Digital Citizenship!
