Mrs. Eske's Team: Building Leaders
4th Grade Newsletter * Week of October 10-14
From the Desk of Mrs. Eske:
Friday marks the end of 1st Quarter!!! Thank you so much for scheduling a time to meet with me for Parent Teacher Conferences, beginning the week of October 24th. I still have just a few parents that I haven't been able to reserve a time for, so please help me to get that set up as soon as possible. Our District expects us to have 100% parent conference attendance, so I appreciate you helping me to get my schedule set, so that preparations can be made for your conference!!
This week is also Fire Prevention Week and our annual Ozarks Food Harvest Food Drive!! Thank you for your donations!
Mrs. Eske
Building LEADERS one subject at a time!!
Reading: This week I will continue meeting with guided reading groups and we will be continuing to practice rotations for Reading Workshop. While students are meeting with me for small group instruction, the rest of the class will either be reading independently, with a partner, writing about their reading, or doing Lexia (our Online Reading program) on their new devices. We will be continuing to practice making connections, visualizing, and exploring nonfiction text features.
Writing: In writing, we will continue working on personal narratives.
Math: WOW!! Our scores from last week's math test were AWESOME!!! I love seeing students happy when they do a good job, and I saw a lot of smiles when returning those tests!! I would love to see our students continue to gain confidence in math, so students are always encouraged to use their devices at home to access Dreambox, our individualized online math program.
Content: We will continue our Project Based Learning Unit: On the Move/Regions and Exploration. Last week we graphed how many times students have moved and we discussed reasons why people migrate (move) from one place to another. We read and listened to the book, Leaving Home; a story about a boy from Jamaica who moves to the United States and has to leave behind everything that is familiar to him.

Friendly Reminders: Even though we don't have "assigned" homework each night, students are encouraged to use their devices at home to practice reading and math skills, using Lexia and Dreambox! Also, devices need to be charged every night and brought back to school fully charged, as we use them frequently throughout the school day.
