Wings To Soar

May 2023

END OF YEAR ACTIVITIES

Many activities are going on over the next several weeks, but most importantly, we are still conducting classes through the end of the day on May 25th. Please check in at the office if you are volunteering during one of these events. The school will not be open for spectators during these events. For safety reasons and to keep in line with school corporation guidelines, we ask that volunteers not return to the classrooms or the playground area (for all grades Kdg. - 5) after the conclusion of the events. The students will be released in the usual manner each day. All changes in transportation must go through the office. Calls should not be made at the school on the day of the event to ask permission for a student to go home with another student. These arrangements should be made before the school day. We need to have this information from the parent/guardian of both students. This is for the safety and protection of students and teachers, one of our primary concerns here at Cortland Elementary.

Proper Dress Habits

WARM WEATHER DRESS CODE REMINDER

This is a friendly reminder about the dress code for the last few weeks of school...

Shoes - No flip flops - must have an enclosed toe and a strap across the heel.

Shirts: Bare midsections, tube tops, tank tops, spaghetti straps, and baggy or alternative-style dress is not permitted.

Shorts: Bicycle shorts or tight-fitting shorts may not be worn. The principal and staff’s guideline for length is to have the student stand with their arms hanging limp at their sides. The shorts are appropriate if they can touch the hem of their shorts without curling their fingers back toward their wrist.

These policies are in place for the safety of our students.

PLEASE HELP US ---Make dismissal safe and smooth.

1. Keep the way your child goes home the same every day unless there is an urgent reason.

2. If you must change the way your child(ren) goes home, a written note, email, or call to the

office is best. We will take phone call changes until 2:00. Changes after this time will not be given to the teacher until after 3:10 unless it is an emergency so that instructional time is not disrupted.

3. Do not pick up your child early unless it is an emergency. If you must pick up your child(ren) early please send a note in the A.M. asking for the teacher to send them to the office at a specific time.

4. Make sure whoever is picking up your child has a pick-up number hanging visibly from their rearview mirror.

If you pick your child(ren) up before 3:10 it will be noted on attendance.

The earlier the better in regards to such calls or you can send an email to the office kleberb@scsc.k12.in.us. (Just a reminder that teachers are in the classroom teaching and may not be able to get your email until after students have been released at the end of the day. So please do not send teachers change of transportation information)

School attendance is very important.

One of the key things for you to know is that you will need to call in every time your child is out of school. If the office does not receive a call, note, or email your child's absence will be marked as unexcused. We do worry about the kids when they are not in school.

If your child is out sick and visited the doctor, is late or absent because of an appointment, please send in, email, or fax the doctor’s note to the office, so that we have the note on file stating when the child can return. Plus, we can mark the absence accordingly. If a doctor's slip is not turned in these will be marked as Parental Excused absences.

Absences caused by family trips, vacations, and special circumstances require the submission of a Pre-arranged Absence Form prior to the absence. If a pre-arranged absence form is not filled out before the absence, these will be marked as Parental Excused absences.

If you have questions about the policy, please feel free to contact me. kleberb@scsc.k12.in.us Cortland phone # 812-522-7483 Cortland Fax # 812-522-6164
