Halloween
We had a lot of fun on Halloween. The students had very creative costumes and we couldn't have asked for better weather for the parade. Thanks so much to Mrs. Liddy for organizing our party. Thanks to all the parents who sent in food and supplies.
New Homework Policy
We are starting a new homework policy. Please see the yellow letter in the Friday folder about the change in homework.
Box Tops
We are still collecting Box Tops. We told the kids that if they bring in a sheet full of Box Tops we will pay them 100 Wookie Bucks. The Box Tops add up quickly and the money goes toward our spring field trips.
Emmet County Recycling Center
We had a great field trip to the Recycling Center on Thursday. The student learned a lot of information about the different recyclables the center accepts and then where those materials go. They also learned about what those materials are used for. A huge thank you to Mrs. Keller and Mrs. Swadling for coming out to help us with the field trip!
Wish List
Parents I am in need of compositions books. If you could pick up one or two and send them in next week I would really appreciate it! Thanks!
Language Arts
- Reading: This week we continued working on story structure with a reader's theater script.
- Writing: We continued working on our personal narratives. Students wrote their final body paragraphs and the conclusion.
- Grammar: We continued working on action, linking, and helping verbs.
Math
This week students learned how to use a number of strategies to solve multiplication number sentences such as 24 x 250 or 14 x 50 using mental math. They were also excited to learn how to use regrouping to multiply a multi-digit number by a 1-digit number. Please continue working on math facts with your student!
Science and Social Studies
Science-
We watched the movie The Lorax, and discussed how recycling might have changed the outcome. We took a field trip to the Recycling Center and learned about how we can help take care of our environment.
Social Studies-
We used interactive United States desktop maps to work with partners on geography skills. We read about elevation maps, annual rainfall maps, and population density maps. We used our desktop maps to practice interpreting those types of maps.
