ANNOUNCEMENTS

Jump Rope for Heart

Hoover Elementary School is kicking off our American Heart Association Jump Rope For Heart program! The event will be held the week of February 8th 2016.

  • With the educational programs from the American Heart Association, our students learn how the heart works, how exercise affects their hearts and how to stay FIT FOR LIFE!
  • Funds raised support the AHA’s research and education initiatives that save lives in our community. Heart disease & stroke are the No. 1 & No. 5 killers of all Americans and more people die of heart disease than all other forms of cancer combined. The American Heart Association is second to only the U.S. government in funding research in heart disease and stroke. Approximately 80 percent of the funds raised go directly to the mission, funding extensive research efforts, heart education and programs to help us all live healthier lives.

DEADLINE: Donations can be made online or by check and are due by February 12th 2016. Please make checks payable to American Heart Association. You can even check with your place of employment to see if they offer a matching gift.

Valentine's Day Celebrations

Classroom parties to celebrate Valentine's Day will be held on Friday, February 12th beginning at 2:30PM. In accordance with the District’s Volunteer Policies, party chaperones must submit either a copy of their clearances or a signed Volunteer Affirmation to the main office. This document is valid for the entire school year, so volunteers who have already submitted an affirmation need not complete an additional copy. Homeroom coordinators will need to submit the list of party chaperones by no later than Friday, February 5th.

With an increasing number of food allergies in our school buildings, we need to keep the safety of all students a priority. In accordance with the District Wellness Policy's food guidelines, we are requesting that no candy or other food be exchanged among students as a part of their Valentine’s Day celebrations. The PTA will provide the students with a special treat during their class parties.

Families and students are encouraged to consider other non-edible alternatives. Below is a link with some fun ideas for “no candy” valentines for kids! Thanks very much for you understanding and cooperation!

REMINDERS

Kindergarten Registration Begins Monday, February 1st

Kindergarten Registration for the 2016-2017 school year will begin throughout the Mt. Lebanon School District on Monday, February 1st, 2016. Children who reach the age of five before September 8th are eligible to enter Kindergarten in the fall. This is a wonderful time of the year as we welcome many children into the Mt. Lebanon Elementary Community and begin our planning for a new school year. If you have a child or know of a neighbor who is eligible for Kindergarten, please stop by the main office to pick up a registration packet.

All incoming Kindergarten students will be given a short screening interview in late spring to assess basic skills and to aid parents, teachers, and school administration in student placement. This tool is used just as a baseline of student knowledge. Parents will select a date and time for the screening when they pick up their registration paper work.

Additional details about our Kindergarten program can be found on the district's website, or by clicking HERE.

Recess Announcements

Please remember that we will be taking the students outside for recess as long as the weather holds out. It is very important to send students with proper winter attire, including a warm coat, hat, gloves, etc. If there is snow on the ground, students must have boots and snow pants to play in the snow during recess times. Thank you!

Absence Excuse Reminder

With cold and flu season in full swing, please remember that a written excuse is required in order for student absence(s) to be considered excused. Parents/guardians should submit a written note indicating the reason(s) their student(s) absence(s) upon their return.

For your convenience, a standard absence form has been added to the Hoover webpage. Find this and other helpful forms by clicking on the "Parent" link, then selecting "Forms."

Save the Date!

The first Mt. Lebanon School District STEAM Showcase will be held on Monday, March 7th! Look for more specific event details in upcoming e-blasts!
