August 23, 2021 Principal Message
Jeffreys Grove Magnet Elementary
Dear Jeffreys Grove Families,
I hope you're having a great weekend and are excited about heading back to school on Monday August 23rd!
It has been so much fun to welcome our staff back in the building this past week. We have been busy gearing up for another school year and preparing to welcome our students with great anticipation. Classrooms look fantastic and Meet the Teacher "drive through style" was certainly one of the highlights of the week. We had an opportunity to welcome our Kindergarten families on Wednesday during our annual Popsicles on the Playground event. It was delightful and heartwarming to meet our newest Eagles!
Join me in welcoming all our new families and staff as we kick off the 2021-2022 school year. Follow us on Twitter @JeffreysGroveES to meet our newest staff and get timely updates about how we are "Getting Back in the Groove at The Grove" - our theme for this year!
Your Principal,
Juli Ventura

School Hours: Jeffreys Grove school hours are 9:15am-3:45pm. You may drop your child off as early as 8:45am. The tardy bell rings at 9:15am and our instructional day begins promptly at this time. Families are NOT permitted to walk students to class because we are required to significantly limit the number of visitors in the building. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
Carpool Morning Arrival: During arrival time (8:45am-9:10am), please follow the carpool line. When you reach the curb outside the entrance, a staff member or safety patrol student will welcome you and unload your child from the passenger side of your vehicle. I encourage you to use the carpool line instead of parking and walking your child into the building. However, if you do park or if you need to access the handicapped parking, please follow the carpool line until you reach an open parking space or make your way to the handicapped parking. Please do not cut the line to find a parking space or to access the handicapped parking.
Carpool Afternoon Dismissal: In order to ensure a safe and smooth carpool dismissal, please adhere to the following carpool dismissal procedures:
· Do not park and walk up to check your child out of carpool.
· Pull up to designated loading zone.
· Student/s will be loaded by an adult or safety patrol student.
Please note: as our students and staff perfect the carpool process over the coming weeks, things will move more slowly at first. Please be patient as we practice together.
NEW and Important Information regarding our Walkers: Due to the growing safety concerns with traffic and pedestrian congestion outside of our bus loop and on Eddystone Road, we will be strictly enforcing our Walker Policy. Families that live within 1.5 miles of our school are considered in our “walk zone” and can register their student(s) to walk home from our school. Addresses will be verified for walker eligibility. If you have any questions regarding walker eligibility or how to register please email Assistant Principal Julie Scott at jascott1@wcpss.net and she'll be happy to assist you.
Please note that if you live within 1.5 miles of the school, but have to cross Lynn Road or Creedmoor Road, this is considered a “NO WALK ZONE” and bus service is available to you. You may choose to have your child ride the bus or you may pick up your student in the carpool lane.
Please use this link to request bus transportation for your child(ren) for the 21-22 school year.
Bus registration must be completed as early as possible to guarantee bus transportation on the first day of school. If your child was in Virtual Academy for the 20-21 school year and is returning for in-person learning this year, you will need to complete the bus rider registration. Also, if your child rode morning only or afternoon only and you need bus ridership for both, you will need to complete the transportation registration form above.
If you have a Kindergarten student for the 21-22 school year, you completed a transportation request during Kindergarten registration. Siblings do not automatically get assigned transportation so please ensure that you completed this step in the registration process.
If you have any questions about bus transportation please contact Assistant Principal Scott at jascott1@wcpss.net. She'll be glad to assist you.
In short, unless a verified walker or bus rider, all remaining students will be released as carpool riders in the carpool parking lot to authorized vehicles only.
Change of Transportation: Please send a note to your child’s teacher if your child will have a change in transportation on a particular day. If the teacher does not receive a note, your child will be sent home by his/her regular mode of transportation. If you forget to send a note and need your child’s transportation changed, please call the school office before 3:15pm. Any requests after 3:15pm will not be honored.
Checking Children Out Early: If you need to pick your child up early for an appointment, please be sure to check him/her out before 3:15pm. The end of the day is a very busy time for us, so it is important that we take care of early check-outs before 3:15pm. Also, if you wait until after that time, you will probably get caught up in the carpool line.
Monday Folders: Every Monday, you will receive your child’s work folder from school. Be sure to check book bags on Monday for your child’s school work and any teacher/school communication.
Breakfast/Lunch:
Breakfast and lunch will be available at no cost to students for the 2021-22 school year. While the district may be able to offer free meals to all students, it is very important for eligible parents to complete a meal benefits application because this data enables schools to obtain funding to provide other important educational resources to benefit students. Other benefits that are issued directly to families that have applied and are eligible for meal benefits may also be available (such as the P-EBT cash benefit). Beginning July 1, 2021 parents can complete a meal benefits application online at myschoolapps.com. Paper applications will also be available at all schools. More: www.wcpss.net/free-reduced-meals. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our main office at 919-881-4910.
Medication
Students taking medication (over the counter or prescription) at school must have the 1702 form completed by a doctor. These forms must be updated each year and presented to our office prior to the first day of school.
Volunteers
Volunteer registration will be opening soon, although volunteers/visitors are not currently permitted in buildings. If you’d like to sign up to be a volunteer, you must come to a WCPSS campus to sign up. Please make sure to bring your driver’s license to complete your registration. If you are a previously registered volunteer, you will need to re-register
each year. The registration period is open from August 20th – October 29th at 4:00pm. I would highly recommend that anyone interested sign up now, so that if/when they allow volunteers, you will already be registered. You cannot register after October 29th at 4:00pm!
We cannot wait to see you on Monday. This is going to be a spectacular school year!
Your Principal,
Juli Ventura

PTA Corner
We want to give a HUGE shout-out to John Wolfe and Diversified
Property Services Inc for taking Saturday's beautification day to the next level. His team worked for two days grinding stumps, trimming trees, and spreading massive piles of mulch around the school. Thank you also to everyone who came out to volunteer. Areas were cleaned up and planters filled with fresh flowers. The school's campus is ready to welcome each of our students and staff on Monday morning!!
· It’s time for our GoPlaySave Fundraiser! GO support local businesses, PLAY all year long, and SAVE money at the same time. The money we raise through purchases of the GoPlaySave Coupon books will support our Student Enrichment budget line which funds cultural events for all students (the well-loved Batik week for 5th graders and various grade-level residencies throughout the year). Fundraising packets will be sent home next week, but you can start saving (and selling to your friends and family) today. Click here to get started! Hit the green button (“start selling!”) to create a link you can share. Questions? Please reach out to our GoPlaySave Chair, Jennifer Holding.
