Principal's Message
It’s hard to believe that we are already half-way through the year. It sure has gone fast. The 6th graders are getting taller and the 12th graders see the light at the end of the tunnel. And while we are still experiencing positive COVID cases, the numbers have been dropping as has the anxiety around it.
Next week begins Culture Week, an annual celebration at ISB. Culture Week is truly the embodiment of who we are at ISB. There are some details about it below, and know we are going to try to record as much of the event as possible and share it with you as we can: videos, photos, and Zoom speakers. As excited as we are about the events of the coming week, we look forward to next year when we can have parents and family members in the building helping and participating with us.
In addition to Culture Week, there are a number of school events coming up. The band concert, 8th grade parent night, 10th grade parent night, and Noche Familiar para los padres y familias de los estudiantes Latinx e hispanohablantes. These groups will be messaged separately regarding the details of them.
Have a great weekend!
Andrew Gilford
Principal

Snack Donations Needed for ISB Wellness Center
The Wellness Center at ISB has been supplying snacks for students that drop by. We’ve underestimated how popular this would be. We’re glad for the popularity and it is providing Evan Robbins, our social worker, with an opportunity to meet and talk with kids that would not otherwise stop by. Additionally, students seem really happy that there is a room in which they can chill and snack when needing to decompress.
We welcome additional donations of snacks from ISB families to keep up with the demand. A couple parents have provided some donations in the past, and we are reaching out to you to solicit more.
So if you are interested in donating here are some semi-healthy, single-serving ideas based on what has been most popular (there is a mini-fridge and a tea kettle/hot water cups):
Juice boxes (by far the most popular for all ages)
Fruit leathers
String cheese or other cheese snacks
Peanut butter crackers
Cheese crackers
Goldfish crackers
Cuties/Mandarin oranges
Popcorn
Sun Chips
Granola Clusters (apparently a Costco product)
Breakfast bars
Herbal Tea (non-caffeinated)
Your student can drop off any donated snacks in either the main office or the Wellness Center.
Support of Houseless Students
Beaverton School District has over 160 unaccompanied students experiencing housing instability. Second Home helps support these students by connecting them with host homes in our community. If you or someone you know might be interested in hosting a student, helping them stabilize so they can finish school, please come to the Zoom info session on Feb. 10th, 6-7 pm at this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85472761944. Contact: Amy Brownell, abrownell@emoregon.org. More info: https://emoregon.org/second-home/.

Families of Seniors: OSAC Scholarship Deadline is Mar. 1st
The OSAC (Office of Student Access and Completion) Scholarship deadline is quickly approaching. OSAC awards more than $18 million in scholarships annually. Awards range from $1,000 to $10,000 or more. Students don't need to be a merit scholar or a student with financial need to apply. OSAC administers more than 500 scholarship programs, and many students may qualify, but they won't know unless they apply! For more information visit: https://oregonstudentaid.gov/scholarships.aspx
The "Early Bird" application deadline is February 15th. Error-free applications are entered into a drawing for a $1,000 scholarship. March 1st is the regular scholarship application deadline.
The application requires students to upload their 7th semester transcript (the transcript AFTER they have completed first semester senior year). We get these processed as soon as possible. Students should email their counselor for a PDF copy that they will be able to upload to their own application.
This YouTube video goes through the application process step-by-step: https://youtu.be/jmw_WSDIN9U. Counselors are also available to help with questions regarding the application.
COVID Testing Pause After Positive Result
With the omicron variant surging, we are seeing more students testing positive for COVID. Those students who test positive should not participate in the student testing program for 90 days after receiving their results, as they will continue to test positive during this time period. These repeat positive tests consume testing supplies and staff time, and distract OHSU from helping students who are healthy or are just being diagnosed with COVID for the first time. Students with a positive result do not need to opt-out of the program, but they do need to pause their participation until the 90-day period has ended.

World Language Adoption Project Team: NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!
The District is currently seeking Project Team members for the World Language curriculum adoption process. Teachers, students, parents, guardians, administrators, and community members are encouraged to apply. The Project Team is an important part of the BSD Quality Curriculum Cycle (QCC) and makes curriculum adoption recommendations to the School Board.
More information can be found HERE. Below are the links to the applications. The deadline for submitting this is February 11th.
