Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 1 | WEEK 3 | 17 FEBRUARY 2021
The Year 3’s enjoyed celebrating Shrove Tuesday with their pancakes and have created Lenten promises to show kindness to others.
God our Father,
as we begin this holy season of Lent,
help us to see that your merciful love is with us always,
even when we wander far from you.
We ask you to change our hearts,
that we might become better followers of your Son Jesus.
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
It has been wonderful to visit classrooms and to see the children all well settled into their new routines and already hard at work.
Today as we marked the start of Lent with our Ash Wednesday liturgy in the undercover area, Fr Sam reminded us to turn Lent into a demonstration of our faith, love and generosity. He spoke of simple actions we can all take to “be more” for our world. There are many ways to put your compassion into action and whatever you choose to do, no matter how small, you’ll be contributing towards a more just and compassionate world.
This term we will be introducing a number of lunchtime clubs and activities for the children to participate in. We are very excited about the array of extra-mural opportunities that will be on offer for our children at OLOM this year.
Koorda Waabiny Craft Club
Wednesdays for Years 2 and 3 and on Thursdays for children in Years 4 to 6.
Mrs Brown will be running a Maths Numero Club at lunch once a week, initially for selected Year 5 and 6 students. Once these students are experienced in the game, we will open the club up to other students to learn how to play.
Jump Jam Club
We are creating a Senior Jump Jam Team to compete in this year’s Jump Jam Competition. Interested students in Years 4-6 will be auditioned for the team. We are seeking 18 students to participate in this program.
As soon as our library is back up and running again, we will open it up for children to come in and read. We are also hoping to get parent volunteers involved to read some big book stories to children in the library at lunch time, so please consider volunteering when we put out a call for parent and carer volunteers.
We would like to welcome two new members on staff, Rosanna Indelicato, who is an Education Assistant in PPB and Kobi Marks who is an Aboriginal Teacher Assistant and will be working with several students across our school. I know Rosanna and Kobi will be warmly welcomed in our school.
God bless you.
