Pooled Testing by Concentric
We will be taking another step towards keeping our LUCHA leaders safe from the spread of COVID-19 in the weekly testing of students in their class. Our hope is that 100% of parents will sign the consent form allowing for us to administer pooled testing at LUCHA to monitor any potential asymptomatic spread at our site. All students who participate will be shown how to self-administer the test. The test that will be used is a non-invasive, short nasal swabs or saliva. Your child will give themselves the test in their classroom and then the test swab/sample will be collected by the test provider at that time and all swabs taken in the class (including the teacher’s) will be analyzed together. This is called “pool testing.” If any of the swabs or samples in the “pool” are positive, then all persons in the class will be notified immediately. In that case, that will allow you to have your child tested again to determine whether she/he is positive for Covid-19.
Please read through the information being sent home in today's blue folder and reach out if you have any questions. If you consent to having your child participate in testing, please fill out the forms and return them in your child's blue folder. If you do not want your child to participate, please make a note on the form and send it back or call our office to let us know.
Los Dichos
If you were unable to attend, but are interested in volunteering to read (virtually over Zoom) a book to your child's class and lead them in a follow up arts & craft activity, please add your name to this google form or reach out to Ms. Rubi at (408) 928-8314 or rubi.solis@arusd.org.
Our first book will be "Biblioburro" and we are hoping to do our reading the first week in October!
We will only be doing a total of five books this year so your participation in Los Dichos would entail joining one training meeting and then connecting with your child's classroom!

Passcode: SSC
At this meeting we will be electing a chairperson for our SSC, as well as nominating parents to serve on our District Advisory Council (DAC) and District English Language Advisory Committee). If you are interested in taking on any of these roles, be sure to attend this meeting!
Family Night
LUCHA has traditionally held monthly Community Meetings as a way to keep parents informed and involved in their child's education.
Last year, these events shifted online and the focus became in creating a space where all LUCHA leaders together with their families could come together and connect around a shared activity. We had very positive feedback on these monthly Family Nights and are excited to keep the tradition going this year.
Please save the date for our first LUCHA family night which will be held on Zoom on Wednesday, October 6th at 6pm.
Kimochis Communication Key #1
Now that we have introduced the five main Kimochis characters, we are transitioning to introducing our students to the Kimochis Keys to Communication - strategies that students can use to effectively interact with others.
Communication Key #1 focuses on the benefits and importance of initiating communication in appropriate and kind ways. When students learn how to get attention from peers and adults respectfully they create a social-emotional connection that leads to successful outcomes.
Here are the steps we have reviewed with students for how to get someone's attention:
- Call the name of the person you want to speak with.
- Wait for eye contact before beginning to speak.
- If necessary, give them a communication tap, before speaking.
Why this skill is important: When children use this tool, it eliminates confusion and reduces the chance of a communication error. Teaching children to be assertive when they speak by using eye contact and saying the person’s name creates room for deeper connections.
Mrs. Burt will be out on Friday
Mrs. Musquez and Ms. Rubi will also be present that day if you have any immediate questions or concerns.
Mexican Heritage Parking Lot
There will continue to be access to exit through the driveway to San Antonio out onto King Road but this can become crowded when overlapping with San Antonio's dismissal times.
Last Chance to sign up for 4th & 5th Grade Instrumental Music
If this is something your child might be interested in, please review this presentation and complete this google form by Thursday, September 30th.
