Campus Weekly Newsletter Week of September 21st-25th
Week 6
Parents/guardians, this week the students are talking about Sharpening the Saw (Habit 7 in Leader in Me) and Digital Citizenship. Please ask your children about appropriate ways to interact and access resources safely online and healthy habits. More information on ways to focus on health this week is included below under "Mindfulness Practices of the Week." Also, Friday is the final day to complete or make changes to the Parent Commitment Form. Please click the link below if you have not yet completed a form for your child.

Mindfulness Practices of the Week: Adequate Sleep and Exercise
Creating healthy sleep and exercise habits as children helps our students learn more effectively and encourages health habits as adults. It is critical during a time of remote learning and increased technology exposure that our children are sleeping no less than 9 hours per day and are exercising no less than 60 minutes per day to combat the effects of several hours a day of technology.
When can I schedule my 60 minutes of physical exercise each day? This can be 30 minutes at a time or one period of 60 minutes per day. A minimum of 30 minutes of exercise at a time is recommended by the American Heart Association so that cardiovascular endurance is being developed appropriately. Discuss the benefits from the graphic or exercise
Challenge:
Work together as a family to create a daily schedule. Include times for when you will wake up, when you will exercise for 60 minutes each day, what time you will turn off all technology, and what time you will go to bed. Remember that you need AT LEAST 9 hours of sleep per day.
Post a picture of your schedule OR a picture of your family exercising together to FAMILY ACTIVITY: #LPEPawsUP
Goal: Practice getting a minimum of 9 hours of sleep each day this week and 60 minutes daily of exercise indoors or outdoors.
Family Discussion Questions:
Plan backwards to determine what time your child needs to go to bed so that they get 9 hours or more of sleep. (consider what time you will get up so that you are ready to eat breakfast, showered, and dressed by 7:30; If I need to awaken at 7:00, then I should be in bed by 10:00 or earlier. If it takes time for you to go to sleep, then be in bed by 9:30). AT LEAST NINE HOURS OF SLEEP IS THE GOAL.
Students may have trouble going to sleep earlier----- studies show that turning off technology at least 1 hour before bedtime AND getting at least 60 minutes of physical activity during the day will help you sleep. What time should I turn off my technology before bedtime tonight? (1 hours before your 9:00 bedtime is 8:00 to turn off technology. Technology includes any “blue screen”- TV, computer, phone, ipad, tablet, video games, etc.) Students may read a book, draw, listen to music, take a shower/bath, play with toys or board games, et cetera as alternatives to screen time before bed.)

Prácticas de la semana. Descanso y ejercicio
