The Skokie Home Scoop
May 9, 2022
Dear Skokie Community,
We hope all of you moms out there had a lovely Mother’s Day! Thank you from our entire Skokie Staff for making Teacher Appreciation Week so special for us. The community really went all out, and we greatly appreciate your generosity and kindness.
There are several things happening at Skokie this week that we wanted you to be sure to you have information about:
Tuesday:
Students will be taking the MAP Reading test during their morning academic block. Here are some helpful ways to prepare your child for the MAP test:
Cadet and Jazz Band Performance (5th Graders and Jazz Band Members) 7:30 p.m., Skokie Auditorium
Wednesday:
On Wednesday, we will hold an all school assembly during advisory. During the assembly, our Lions of Leadership Club will share how much money the school raised during our Ukraine fundraiser. Ms. Weir and Mr. Joynt will review some schoolwide expectations, such as how to act in our hallways and at lunchtime. We will also discuss the “why” behind these expectations, honing in on how we can spread kindness and help all school community members feel respected. Finally, our Skokie Chorus will perform our new Skokie Song, which a group of students wrote and composed as a gift to Skokie for its 100th birthday.
Thursday:
Speaking of our Skokie Chorus, they will perform on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Skokie Auditorium.
Let’s make it a great week!
Betty Weir and Larry Joynt
Skokie Principal and Assistant Principal

**All orders arrive 3 weeks after the ordering window closes.

Bike Safety Initiatives
As we enjoy more spring-like weather, more students will be riding bikes and walking to school. The District and Winnetka Police Department recently sent this letter to our school community on Bike Safety efforts.
In the letter, we shared information on safety pledges for students, safe route maps for each elementary school, and noted we are reintroducing the elementary “Bike Rodeo” event for second grade, hosted collaboratively with Scout Troop 20, Green Bay Cycles, and our school PTOs on the following dates:
Hubbard Woods: Wed, 5/11, 4:00pm (5/12 rain date)
Crow Island: Wed, 5/18, 4:00pm (5/19 rain date). The Winnetka Police will be present at this particular event for community engagement and photo opportunities.
At this event, second grade students will learn basic guidance about proper bike and helmet use. If your family is unable to attend the event at your child(ren)’s home school, you are welcome to attend another event.
