Community Counts @Tburg Elementary
Back-to-school 2013
Welcome Back!
Your Trumansburg Elementary School Community Counts team welcomes you back for another great school year! This year, the Community Counts team has joined together with the Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS) team so that we can streamline our efforts to support our students in choosing positive behaviors and demonstrating excellent character.
What is Community Counts?
Community Counts is our way of teaching and reinforcing the school's expected behaviors. This year, we will spend some time on the first two days of school going over our expectations for the cafeteria, playground, bus and hallway. One of the ways we do this is through our school constitution.
What are Star Cards? What are Oops Cards?
You may hear your child talk about Star Cards, which we've used for the past 2 years, and Oops Cards, which are new this year. Staff members hand out Star Cards to students who are showing positive behaviors. For example, students who walk quietly in the hallway, clean up in the cafeteria, or include a classmate on the playground would earn a Star Card. Classes pool their Star Cards to earn rewards, like the Community Counts Carnival.
Oops Cards are given out for minor infractions, like running in the hallway or leaving garbage on the table in the cafeteria. These cards are given to Mr. Hodge, the school's Dean of Students. If a student accumulates 4 Oops Cards for one behavior, Mr. Hodge will consider whether further disciplinary action is needed.
